Alabama passed a law (alabama HB 56) and it caused most to flee the state and many farmers were forced to watch crops rot in the fields cause no one wonted to pick them.

 

Elections have begun. Right now, it's time to ensure as few of them as possible swing Trump's way to minimize his power as much as possible, and the Democrats are the only viable alternative running. Return to status quo is the best possible short-term scenario.

From the looks of poor Mr. Khashoggi, the only thing he ever fought in his life was a laptop.

 

I wonder what the official line will be in a few days- that Khashoggi threw himself at the fists of Saudi Arabia's hitmen, and that's why he ended up dead? And you know Trump will blast that line at his campaign rallies.

The online trolls are busy doing all they can to smear Khashoggi's name too. Its kind of hard to cover up him being killed and then his body "disappearing" from inside the embassy, but they'll come up with something, no matter how unbelievable.

I am pretty sure he “led the struggle” against Hitler because German expansionism was a threat to his own empire, and afterwards gave up his extreme advocacy of subjugating non-whites because the aforementioned war had weakened the U.K. too much to make that a tenable path any longer.

I’m also fairly certain there was an active anti-racist and anti-colonialist contingent of British people in his day, so I’m not sure which context your asking to use.

No doubt the 'fight' consisted of the difficulty of sawing off his limbs with a dull bonesaw.

 

It's depressing that it takes the murder of a US resident by the Sauid's to draw attention to their brutality. The Kingdom has been exploiting, oppressing terrorising its citizens for ages. This faux moral stand will only last as long as Khashoggi's murder is in the headlines and then the West will go back to it's pact with the devil.

We're in some new phase where the old pretences (e.g. human rights, democracy, liberalism) are being rejected, seen as the fig-leaves they always were. In the old days, dissidents were murdered well out of sight and the U.S. would talk about liberating oppressed people (conveniently omitting how the liberation aligned with more profit-based objectives). Now we get lip-service explanations of said murders and open appeasement due to arms deals.
