I wonder if he thinks it’s for Blade Runner 3.

I wonder if he's worried that he won't be Renough.

So nothing is known about Levy's movie, right?

It was rumored at one point to feature Rey as an old lady, and levy said it would be set in an era that’s never been explored before, but that’s all we know right now.

The Hollywood Reporter article states that Levy's film has no connection to the Skywalker saga, so I would assume that rules out Rey being involved at any age and any capacity.

She could be a side character/ cameo. You never know.

Vader is in rogue one, after all…

That's right. I thought that Rey as old mentor story was changed to Rey as younger mentor? Or am I thinking of Lindelof's movie?

I would never have imagine Ryan Gosling doing a SW film.

    I would be intriguing though.

Yeah, Lindeloff’s movie (which Sharmeen is supposed to direct), was originally gonna feature an older Rey. But then Lindeloff quit and got replaced with Steven Knight, and old Rey became young Rey. But now Knight has left too, and rumored to be replaced by Lawrence Kasdan.

Supposedly Levy’s movie that may or may not feature old Rey is something completely different.

There’s also a potential Rey trilogy being developed by Simon Kinberg, but tbh I think only ones of these projects will actually see the light of day, and it sounds like it’s levy’s.

Disney needed to make a move like this. They had to have more star power leading these projects.

Rogue Squadron. He'd be perfect as a veteran fighter pilot.

Jeff Sneiders last report was that Rey would have a role in this movie. Probably close to the timeline of The New Jedi Order movie. And no connections Highly unlikely. It will be like Rogue One, a new orginal story with returning characters as cameo roles. This could work as a Prequel to next Trilogy like Rogue One to the OT. I bet Ryan Gosling will play a jedi scoundrel.

I agree that Gosling is a major get, but star power isn't a guarantee anymore. Jude Law didn't exactly move the needle with Skeleton Crew. Of course, Gosling has a higher profile than Law right now, but even after Barbie was a massive success, The Fall Guy was a dud.

Yeah, star power is very clearly not what it once was, but there is a gulf between Jude Law and Ryan Gosling in terms of moviegoer appeal.

I'd argue Tom Cruise. Can't think of any others really so he is kind of a rarity in that respect when you think about it.

Agree, and there is also a gulf between the formats they are appearing in; films are much higher profile than tv shows.

Now, Tom Cruise is one of those high profile actors that I can't imagine appearing in Star Wars any time soon, if ever (not saying anyone suggested that, it's just a general reflection).
Never say never, of course - and it would be interesting to see the first Star Wars movie that's actually shot in outer space...

Even Tom Cruise doesn't have the same draw anymore. He stuck his improving reputation to Mission: Impossible over the last decade, and Top Gun: Maverick seemed to skyrocket his stock, but just last year, Dead Reckoning really underperformed.

DiCaprio is maybe the only other major star who can attract audiences to theaters. It's pretty incredible that a film as harsh and violent as The Revenant made $500 million worldwide at the same time that The Force Awakens dominated the box office, and Leo is certainly a major reason for that. But his last two films were headed by Netflix and Apple, so most of the revenue was streaming and not theatrical. So it's hard to say what draw he has on his own anymore, and he works so infrequently and selectively that it's hard to imagine him choosing a Star Wars project unless it was headed by a truly elite director.

So yes, getting a major star like Gosling should certainly help attract general audience interest in Levy's film (lest we forget, Lucas cast Oscar winner Alec Guinness to lend credibility to Star Wars in 1977), but it's not a guarantee that the film will be a hit.
