If Magus shows that power why would his goons be using it?

Yeah, Ozzie can do it. Ummmm, yeah, a few undead skeleton drones as a little backup really isn't out of the question here. It's more or less the same thing as a summoner summoning... stuff. Not too many, though. Probably no more than half-a-dozen. No armies of minions are allowed. Obviously that goes for everyone who can potentially summon an army of cannon fodder as backup. Everyone's limited to just a few.

Nobunaga Oda (Onimusha) vs. Serge (Chrono Cross)

I don't like Serge here. With a little bit of help he might have had it, but I just don't think he's doing this in his own.

    Nobunaga

Emperor Barbarossa (Suikoden) vs. Magus' Goons (Chrono Trigger) *prepared*

I don't like Barbarossa here either. Against any one of them, yes, and maybe any combination of two, but not all three at once, and not with prep.

    Magus' Goons

Oh, my bad. I guess I shoulda dropped a note in here on what I was doing. Since I was struggling so badly to think of something that'd help me decide on the first match, and since it pretty much decides things, I had to go back and revisit the games. Nobunaga was easy since I already had a save file right at the end of Onimusha 3. Serge... not so much. Sifted through my PS1 memory cards and there was no Chrono Cross file to be found. So I, uh, started a new game.

    Don't worry, though. Almost done.

Okay, I still have some hours left to play in the game, but I think I've seen enough.

On a side note, I'd only played through CC once before. I remember having fun with it, but also a distinct feeling of being underwhelmed and it being a let down after CT. But playing it again, I think I've gained a new appreciation for it. It really almost is every bit as good as CT. Only one real issue (which I think was my main issue the first time through as well) stands out, and that's that the characters don't feel nearly as fleshed-out in comparison to CT. And that's probably because they tried to shoehorn too many of them into the game. There's like 30-something of 'em in CC, and none of them are as good as any of the CT characters as a result. But aside from that, I kinda think it's a shame now that this game didn't get anywhere near the recognition that CT did. It's a really, really good game.

Nobunaga Oda (Onimusha) vs. Serge (Chrono Cross)

And I think I'm gonna have to go with Serge here in a real barnburner of a fight. I remember saying earlier that Serge was probably just as good as Crono, but now I know that he definitely is. And then some, actually. Pretty much because of the magic. Crono's limited to his specific element and relatively small list of spells and tech attacks. Serge, on the other hand, can use everything in the game. It's just that the spells related to his specific element are more powerful when he casts them. And his luminare spell is every bit as good as Crono's. But I already remembered all that. What I didn't remember were how good the magic in CC is in general. I wouldn't say it's the greatest stuff in the draft, but there's a large number of really powerful spells that Serge can draw from. And healing, naturally that's gonna be big for him. Hell, it's something Crono can't do by himself without items.

Anyways, yeah, skill between Nobunaga and Serge seems really close, but Serge would seem to have the speed advanatge (he displays this in some of his tech attacks). Both have really powerful magic, but Serge would take the variety of it. Within a minute or so, he'll have seen everything Naga's gonna throw at him, while he'll still have some tricks up his sleeve. And again, the healing will likely be huge for him.

And then experience. Serge has faced worse, I think (the dragons come to mind). Never really by himself, but there's not going to be too much that Naga can throw at him that won't be a lesser version of something he's already faced and conquered. In the end, it's extremely close, but I have to vote Serge here.

    Winner: Serge

Emperor Barbarossa (Suikoden) vs. Magus' Goons (Chrono Trigger) *prepared*

This one wasn't much easier. But I suppose I do have to go with the Goons... barely. But only because I think that they'll be able to beat Barbar before he can transform into his hydra form. If he's able to do that (which I think is just unlikely enough, thanks to that prep), then they're not beating him anytime soon, prep or no. But these fools ought to be able to keep from bumbling things up long enough with the prep time in place and take care of business and keep him from powering up.

    Winner: Magus' Goons

Well... ****. Aragorn hasn't logged in for a good long while now, so this is where I find a replacement. Only I just spent about five straight minutes blankly staring at a wall (with what I imagine was a semi-retarded look on my face) trying to think of who I could get, and yep, no idea whatsoever.

    I'll figure something out.

I do think, just given the nature of the game, that Serge has faces opponents above Nobunaga's level. Sure, it was with some friends, but we don't hold that against other characters. And if what Shurron says is true, then this should be a fun match. I just don't think Serge would lose.

    Yep, there's my argument.

I really hate matches involving games that were never released in my country. Though we have the unique situation here that I have played Chrono Cross and not the games that were available here (except Onimusha 1). That said, in CC Serge is a white magic specialist, so it would make sense that he was equipped with mostly that type of power; that would also be most effective against Nobunaga, to my mind, as well as providing some good healing powers. I vote for Serge.

Ah, yeah, I meant to earlier announce that Marcus will be our tiebreaker judge for the remainder of the draft in place of Aragorn. So, yeah. There he is. *thumbs up*

And with that, we finish this round without the need for any team battles. Good job to both Hamm and Zizz for making it this far, but you both still suck. Zizz in particular needs to work on his time-stopping skills.

And that means that we have our grand finale. It's taken some work to get here, but it'll be an epic showdown. Is BaSSiL going to add another invisible trophy to his equally invisible trophy case? Or will Inty make it two in a row for the Mod Squad in this draft (stupid mods...)?

Best of luck. But I hope you fall.
