Hey dude, I figure that since we are pretty much the only two people that post here, I figure that we should have our own thread. Of course anyone else is more than welcome to add their comments if they want, just make sure that they are funny, informative, intelligent and above all post-modern. That last aspect cannot be emphasised enough!

So what you been up to? I went to see Return of the King again tonight. Still pretty amazing, though I would love to see the scenes with Sauroman. I bet they rock. Its a real shame that they are not in the final cut, it just feels like a big cop-out. Still, who am I to question the great Peter Jackson, "Meet the Feebles" is right up there with Citizen Cane in my opinion. ;)

My script for Wolf Hunt is coming along very well. I've decided that I need to have more structure in my writing, so i'm forcing myself to write at least 1000 words every time I sit down to write. Its bloody hard some days, but its the only way that I can get anything done.

I'll be sure to send you a copy when i've finished the first draft. Should be ready in a week or so.

    Fingers crossed.

This thread sounds like a pretty cool idea to me, Its more reliable than email and msn i guess.

Yea, I like ROTK, but i think its unfair for them to have cut ALL of the saruman scenes, i think there is a sense of "unclosure" going on there. Besides, its blasphemy to cut out an actor such as Christopher Lee, I mean, getting from Dooku to Dracula is no easy feat (even if they do have more similarties than most people think). Anyway, enough of that Rant.

I think Terra Deserves reccomendation, since he makes up the valuable extra third of the major posting group here.

I think Christopher Lee specialises in playing roles that sound very similar to other bad guy. You got Sauroman and Sauron and theres Dooku and Dracula. With so many names out there (both real and made up), you would think that they would be able to come up with something original.

That is my biggest problem with Return of the King. I mean if the Matrix or Star Wars left out Agent Smith and Darth Vader from the final movie there would be an outcry of bibical proportions. But because its LOTR its perfect and of course and we're not allowed to say anything against it. But they can dis' our fave movies all they want.

I'm not saying that I don't like LOTR, I do, they are some of my fave movies. But I think they are far from perfect. I mean all the way through ROTK we are promised the mother of all dust ups between the Witch-King and Gandalf. But in the end the witch-king is killed by a chick, helped by a Hobbit? Some bad-ass demon he was.

Had a major Monty-Python moment when King Theoden is riding along in front of his men preparing them for war and they all yell, and his neice lets out a really loud girly yell.

King Theoden: Are there any women here??

    Well, it made me laugh.

Terra: You are more than welcome at our sanctuary. Just make sure that you wipe your feet before you enter.

Fall-on-Jin: By the way, i'm having a little trouble with my script. Any interesting facts on wolves that you know and would care to share?

Yea, i agree with you with the witch king of Agmar thingy. He kinda did go down like a big choirboy.

Now lets see... wolves... wolves.... well, The only thing i can think of is that British Wolves are extinct, or near extinction at least, although that could have been from a dream i had. So really, I'm not sure to be honest with you. If it's the comedy factor your after (that is, if I'm thinking about the same script) then too much knowledge would only grab the wolf enthusiasts out there, try and incorporate something more sterotypical to wolves, like a little red riding hood based in-joke.

Fall-on-Jin: Good idea on the Little Red Riding Hood thing. It gave me a new avenue to go down and it managed to write 5 pages today (something of a record for me)!.

I seem to have a very strange writing style though. I don't have any set plot or outline in my head, I just start rambling and somehow I manage to have everything come together and usually end up with a script that makes some sense, in rare cases I have been known to actaully write something half decent in this way.

I don't know if i've explained it to you or not, but this series is kind of like a fly on the wall documentry (ala office) on a guy that investigates the paranormal (ala X-Files). I've got an entire series lined up. I'm going to write an episode on aliens, vampires, Zombies, ghosts (I've got a great idea for that one, it will be set in a haunted house) etc.

If you have any ideas on possible future topics, then please let me know. Also, any input is, as always VERY welcome. I'll be sure to tidy up the script tomorrow and send the the first half (roughly) of what i've done. So you can tell me if i'm wasting my time or if its a half decent idea.

By the way, watched Matrix again tonight. WOW. I don't think i'll ever get tired f watching that movie. Its just so awsome. I found myself mouthing the lines through most of the movie. "I want to share a revelation i've had with you". It doesn't quite sound so good in a welsh accent though....

It may well be an unpopular thing to say, but I really do think the Matrix movies are widely overrated.

The special effects, obviously, are fantastic, as are the fight scenes, but the acting (for the most part) is lacklustre. I'll be the first to admit the concept is fantastic, but it's hardly original, and the importance of said concept was lost greatly in the 2nd and 3rd movies.

I did enjoy the 1st and 2nd - some story arcs were truly well done, and I felt the whole thing was leading up to something...and was let down greatly. Too many new characters were throw at us with little relevance or conclusion and I feel the Wachcaaposisadkjasbf (sp!) brothers were trying far too hard to be profound towards the end.

Welshguy - Yea, you've told me about the idea. I think it could work very well, and who knows! We could even make a pilot one day, which would be awesome. Whats more, its our own stuff, so we can flogg it too!

I see you've covered Wearwolves, Zombies, Vampires, the like. What about A Witch which turns out to be some sort of crazy old hermit who lives in the woods, based on speculation... hold it... a thought!

(Insert name here) Woodlands. An Eeire place by all respects. Local residents of the nearby (insert town which is geographically correct to woodland chosen) have sighted what they have dubbed, "the wicked witch of the West Wales". One of locals, One Mike Hunt (sound of laughter in the background, narrator has uneasy voice from now on because he doesn't get the joke) has said that he has seen the Witch, and has provided us with an interview.

(shot of an overwieght boy, aged about 14 and covered from head to toe in burberry. He is trying to be serious, but cannot keep a straight face. He has one of those stupid "townie" accents (you know the type, the ones who say "oh! chuck us a dollah!") and is giving what is obviously a fake exagerrated account of a witch. His mother walks past in the background, and asks:

Greg! do you want Alphabites or Waffles with your burger!

Not now mam! I'm on telly!!

Ohh sorry love... (short pause) We're out of Alpha bites!

    Mam!

Shout at me and you'll get nuffink!

The camera then gets knocked over as the boy gets up quickly and runs towards the kitchen. An arguement follows, which reveals embarrisning secrets about the boy and his mother.

Thats my creative spree over for now. Let me know what you think about it.

Terra: Your rampant and shocking Matrixism is not welcome around these parts ;)
Though I suppose everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if it is wrong. Seriously though, I don't think that there's ever been a movie made that was universally like by everyone, so if you don't like The Matrix then thats fine. The important thing is that I like it and nobody will ever be change that or take it away from me.
I have spent the last two night watching Matrix and Matrix Reloaded and I really wanna watch Revolutions tonight but since I havn't got a DVD of it, it is going to be somewhat difficult to do so.
And for those people who hated Revolutions (just watch it again OK!), it still took more money that X-Men2 so stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

Fall-On-Jin: Umh????? I think your starting to lose it mate? Couldn't really see where that scene was going or how it fitted into the story of the witch?
Sorry I havn't got the script off to you yet but i've been a little busy, i'll try and get it off sometime over the weekend.
By the way, I took delivery of a brand new Darth Vader figure today. 10 inches of moulded, pissed off black plastic (oo-er!). It now has pride of place on my desk, next to Darth Maul.

Wonder who would win in a fight between those two????

Maul versus Vader... the age old question (well, since early 1999). Its hard to say, but i personally think Vader would have it in the bag. I mean, being the meanest most powerful motha ever (apart from Palps... but he was there from the beginning)

So yea, my vote would go to Darth Vader.

Yes, the idea of mine WAS a bit out of place, and i missed out a lot of the description for it. Thinking about it in all its confusion... i still don't know what i was on about. Pay it no mind.

Fall-on-Jin: I would have to go with Vader too. I mean Maul was bad-ass and all, but all that fancy flipping and twirling... Vader just would have smacked him one and cut the guy to pieces. Of course if we're talking both Jedi and Sith, then thats a different question all together. A young Obi-Wan beat Anakin, but lost to Dooku and Maul, though I know he did beat Maul, but that was only cause Mauly got cocky. A fully trained Luke would be more than a match for just about any one, though how he would fair against someone like Dooku is a very interesting thought. Then of course you got the big man himself, Yoda. Who could go up against him and walk out in one piece?

We could discuss this for hours, but here's my list of who's best with the old lightsaber. Best first.

    1. Luke Skywalker. (Though he didn't really have much of a challenge apart from an old twisted half man machine, he was the man who finally took down Anakin/Vader)

    2. Count Dooku: (Took down Anakin, Obi-Wan and more than held his own against Yoda.)

    3. Yoda: (Strong in the force, but very small which could be a bit of a set back in battle.)

    4. Young Obi-Wan: (Managed to beat evil Anakin, the man who wipped out all the other Jedi.)

5: Darth Vader: He may have been more machine than man, but he still knew how to swing a saber.)

6: Darth Maul: (Cheated with a double lightsaber, but had plenty of skill and power.)

7: Qui-Gon-Jin: Didn't really make the grade did he? Still pretty cool though.

8: Han Solo: Remember he cut open a Ton-Ton with it in Empire? Well, the way he held that saber!! He knew what he was doing.

I know I havn't included people like Mace Windu and Kit Fasto etc, but it would be hard to tell just how good they really are without seeing them in a decent one on one battle. Heres hoping for episode 3.

Anyone else got a list on who they think shoud come out on top?

Terra: Yeah, saw ROTK when it first came out. I was spell bound the first time I saw it, but when I saw it the second time it just seemed to have lost a lot of its magic. Stuff you didn't notice so much the first time, like Sauroman not being there, Gandalf not fighting the ring-wraith and the looooooooong ending become so much more noticable.

But its the human eliments like Sam's devotion and Aragon's destiny to become king that really make the movie. The CGI is a little poor in places and battle scenes can only get you so far, so a movie like that lives or dies on its character. Thankfully most of them come out pretty well.

Though I wasn't to sure about the "This is your life" part at the end where Frodo see's all his old friends come in the room one after another. All it needed was Gandalf holding a red book.

Nice list there, I pretty much agree with you on all of those, but i recon Vader Deserves the Number 2 slot, Simply because he's second only to Luke Skywalker. Other than that, nice judgement.

On another note, I managed to land a few Bargains at HMV (Which is rare, considering its sometimes £17 for an album! What the hell is that all about?) but seriously, I managed to land the Exorcist (one of the funniest movies ever, for all the wrong reasons) and Donnie Darko, a classicly overlooked movie, for a Tenner Each. I would have looked for more bargains, but I was then skint for the day.

On a completely more Different note, A friend of mine has landed a kelloggs clonetrooper helmet (Canadian Import) for A mere £40, and it looks damn good. Yes, it does need work, but we are considering making a clonetrooper costume, or saving up for stormtrooper armour. Only time will tell.

Fall-on-Jin: Good point about Vader. I suppose the Skywalker family should be number one and two, espcially if you add Anakin to the mix who I forgot about in my list. So if you count Vader and Anakin as one person, he would be number 2.

Funny story about Anakin. I'm trying to convince a pregnant friend of mine to name her child Anakin Davies! Though she doesn't seem to impressed. If its a girl then I suggested Arwen. Both of those names have a slightly Welsh ring to them anyway, so whats the problem????

Big fan of Donnie Darko too, as you may be able to tell from my little siggy thing at the bottom of my posts. Any movie that features a 7 foot tall talking bunny has to rock in my opinion.

    How could it not?????

I wasn't aware that Kellogs made clone tropper helmets? Is it a kind of collect 10 tokens and get one free deal on the back of a corn flakes packet?

Aye, it was an offer they did in canada only when AOTC came out. Basically you'd buy this big box, with 2 packets of cerial in and a two part clonetrooper helmet in it (front and back). Yes, it IS attacked by velcro, and there needs to be a lot of work done to it, but its very good likeness either way.

I'd just like to take the time to announce that theres a Sci-fi convention in newport, this coming sunday. This information is from word of mouth, but it does cost a mere pound to get in, and its at newport center (doors open at mid-day, if you're interested but do not know where to go, PM me by saturday night)#

I don't have chance to watch my DVDs now, as i have to lug all of my stuff into my brothers room, cos he's mooved out and I finally have some space to myself in his room.

Anakin Davies? thats a cracking name i think. And come to think of it, I remember hearing somewhere that Elvish language was based on Welsh, which is something to talk/brag about i suppose. Saying "Elrond" and "Arwen" with a Welsh accent just feels so right.

Another topic of Discussion is the fact that According to Hotdog, A British film magazine, Peter Mayhew is signed on to do epsiode 3, AND... 7, 8 and 9!!!! Now, this rumour has been flying around a lot recently, but this might be the first sign of confirmation we have towards seeing the next 3 installments. Soo many different things to think about... will they be good or bad? What will happen to make them carry on? How will it effect the many many books there are? Many topics for discussion here i think.

Fall-on-Jin: Sorry dude. I've been waiting for you to reply for 5 days and it turns out you did. I just kind of missed it.. Strange that.

So ep 7-9. Sounds interesting. I've heard a rumor that Mark Hamill has been asked by GL to keep 2009 free, so that should be interesting. If uncle George does decide to make those movies, which lets be honest here, all he needs is his own permission, it will be interesting to see where it goes. Eps 1-6 are essentialy the story of Anakin Skywalker. At the end of Jedi the story is complete, so it will be interesting to see where he would go with it??

It will also be interesting to see if he would use the original cast (though some look more like Yoda than space hero's now) or if he would go onto the next generation. Its obvious what most of the fans would want, but would people like Ford and Fisher really want to make them? In Ford's case, probably so. I mean, if he can still be Indy, then he could still be Solo. But Fisher looks more like a Gungun now, rather like a beautiful princess. So that may not work.. Though Mark Hamill could still pull it off.

Its going to be interesting to find out what happens with this story.

One thing that bothers me is the books.... Whats going to happen to them?

Is it all going to continue after the Yuzahn Vong war which hardly anyone (in general) knows about? Or is it going to contradict the whole book series, making it a complete "alternative universe" era. All to consider methinks.

2009 you say? Interesting. Not as bad as the 16 year gap of course, but still, thats a hellova long time. I wonder if he'll do them ala Peter Jackson, as in film all three at once, then release them systematically at bearable (well... almost) intervals. I'd like to see a new star wars movie every year... but then again compare films such as "Star Trek Nemisis" to "Star Trek, the Wrath of Kahn". Granted, they aren't exactly the same timeline, but the same series of movies, with degrading quality in order they were made. Saying that, I'm not one to jump on the bandwagon (anymore) of saying "Episodes 1 and 2 are *****". I took the time to see them myself, and judge them for what they are, which I think are good movies in their own right. (Bloody Empire Brainwashing my thoughts)

Fall-on-Jin: As far as potential problems with eps.7-9 go, I think the books rate along side potential problems like filming permits and what type of shoes should the lead character wear. While the books are fine enough in themselves, they have little or nothing to do with GL's original story arch, so as far as i'm conerend the books may be a midly entertaining (even thats pushing it) diversion, but compaired to the spectical, drama and passion of the movie series it becomes little more than well presented fan fiction.

But then thats just my opinion. The SW books have never really grabbed me in the same way that the movies did. The character are pretty flat (even the established ones) and the "action" is often un-Star Wars like or just down right unbelievable.

I would rather have 3 more Star Wars movies than 100 more Star Wars books, just for the simple fact that they will be GL's story and not someone else's interpritation.

But I know that many people think the direct opposite. Loads of people love the books and would much rather see the Thawn series of movies regardless of what GL has in mind for eps 7-9. What these people need to realise is that it is GL's idea and he's the one who decides what happens and when. He may allow other people to play in his sand-box now and again, but when the day comes he's entitled to tick them out and take it home with him.

Don't take no crap Mr Lucas.

Aye. The books are a bit of a dissapointment at times, while they do hinder those who strive to get the "ultimate fit-in part of the star wars universe" saga. One problem as well is that the books like to contradict the films, with The clone Wars being 35 years before ROTJ (more like 26) and Boba Fetts Background.... let us just not go there, "girl-friend".

I managed to catch Donnie Darko over the weekend.... MY GOD! What movie! I think it tops the all timers list for me (other than star wars). The origionality.. the characters...... and the story! Man, this film was a victim of under-rating, by far. Its one of those movies that makes you think.... about... well, everything!

Fall-on-Jin: Indeed, Donnie Darko is a pretty amazing movie. Just a shame that you have already bought it. I read recently that they are going to be selling it for arounf £5.99 in stores soon. Still whats a couple of quid when its such a great movie.

And just so everyone knows, I liked Mad World waaay before it became a number one Christmas hit. So there.

You going to see Big Fish when it comes out? It looks quite good actually. Ewan Mcgregor and Tim Burton working together is bound to produce something pretty special. Just a shame that it isn't out till Friday. I think i'm going to be going to watch it on Sunday with a mate. Had to stop myself from going to watch Scary Movie 3 tonight...... What?? I was bored ok!!

Did you manage to catch the new issue of Empire? It has the 100 greatest movies of all time in it. Although a list like this is pretty subjective, it still made for some interesting reading. Number one was Fellowship of the Ring (what a suprise), with number two going to Star Wars (New Hope). It will be interesting to see if in 20 years time Fellowship will still be looked upon the same way that Star Wars is? Some other interesting movies of note in there was Attack of the Clones at aroun 50ish, Matrix at number 4, Memento at 40ish (I think??) and Fight Club at around 60. Can't remember what number 3 was though?? Damn......

Well, a 100 is too much work for me, so here's my top 10. (not in order.. Sorry, but again with the work thing).

    1. Star Wars (all 5 movies).
    2. Matrix (all 3 movies)
    3. Fight Club.
    4. East of Eden.
    5. Lord of the Rings (all 3 movies).
    6. Carlitto's Way (here come the pain!!).
    7. Donnie Darko.
    8. Memento (anything with Carrie-Ann Moss in it has to be good).
    9. Goodfellas.
    10. Bowfinger (possibly the funniest movie ever).

I'm sure i'm going to be spending all night slapping my head and saying "how could I forget......". If I do, i'll let you know.

Anyone else care to add their own list?

Good Choices there, I agree with you on the most part (I haven't seen Bowfinger.... I'm deprived....) Ah yes, you've reminded me that sooner or later there will be a Matrix Bocks set coming out, Hopefully they'd do a 5 disk set, all 3 movies, Animatrix, and a special bonus disk. Quality.

Oh yea, did you hear the rumor that The original Tilogy will be out on DVD this year? About Bloody Time I say. Now, there's also all this debate about having the original versions of the movies put on disk. I think they should be immortalized on DVD, as they are the clasic movies which shaped the world in the first place. Sure, the effects might be more wooden than lumberjacks home, but thats the fun of it all.

I think its about time we organised some sort of Fan-meet up. There's a sc-fi convention coming up in cardiff, sometime in march. Its a bit far away, but thats plenty of time to round people up. I could definately bring one person from here (MASTER-SITH), and someone else as well. There was another convention in Newport, quite good deals if you ask me. My mate got a signed Boba Fett Unleashed Figure (which i have tried stealing many-a-time) for £30, and a whole set of SW trading Cards for £6. Oh yea, and a Darth Vader Unleased figure (usually about £15) for a fiver. Good Deals to be had all round. So how about it? Perhaps we could even ask around for help with a fanfilm. I managed to get one person interested, but i forgot to get his name, let alone contact details. Bugger. Ahh well, I have to be going now, talk later dude.

Fall-on-Jin: Hey dude. So where was your list then? If I don't get a list of other people's top ten, then we can't start a forum on the subject. Or, as its more usually called, an argument. So Matrix vrs SW vrs LOTR, I wanna see some debate.

Havn't been up to much recently. I'm bidding on some really cool Neo style Matrix boots on Ebay. How did we ever shop before Ebay? I for one cannot remember these things that we used to call City's and stores??? As far as I can tell, they belong to a bygone age along with cave paintings, silent movies and Knights in armour.

One thing of note happened that you may be interested in though. My brother recently put in a successful £400 bid on a movie projector that retails for around $8000 (yes, eight THOUSAND!). This thing is more or less an industrial piece of kit and I can't wait to see what kind of results we can get with it. Imagine the possiblites dude! An entire wall of your house taken up with a massive white projection screan, all the movies that you have always wanted to see in the cinema, you can now more or less experience them. Any DVD, VHS, MPEG or any other format you can to name can be connected up to this projector to be viewed. How cool is that? I never got the chance to see the original Matrix in the cinema. Now i'm going to get to do that!

Of course, for the full cinema experience I shall employ 25 badly behaved, loud and annoying children to scream thoughout the movie, tip coke all over the floor to get that really sticky cinema feel and of course, turn up 5 minutes into the movie and have to fit 10 inches away from the screan!

    Can't wait!!!!!!!!
