So, I'm still at the learning phase, I'm not familiar yet with the rune part in combat and I don't know what the delusion skill is. At the beginning these games always overwhelm me with information and it takes a bit of time for me to process. For example they made me do a potion for the griffon and I forgot to take it in combat and oh **** it I'll start again from the beginning, tutorial included.

The good news is the entire opening area is basically a tutorial to kind of ease you in to the flow of the game, so you're in a good place to keep fouling up. Definitely remember to save often, though.

One big thing with potions is that they often have generous windows, so it's usually safe to take it a little before the fight so you don't have to remember it in the thick of things. This is kind of a holdover from previous titles where you were required to take potions out of combat for lore reasons - they eased up on this requirement for quality of life purposes, but it's still usually to your advantage to have the proverbial jump on the situation.

the griffin took me a few attempts during my first play through, definitely a challenging spot for the early part of the game

Are you starting from the first Witcher game or have you jumped straight into Wild Hunt?

Yeah, that one passed me by for a while

    As did signs
    and potions

I still don't use signs as much as I probably should even now.
    or potions

Use signs and potions, they make the game easier

    oh, and bombs

    Wild Hunt.
There have been some dialogues where unknown names came out, but apart from that I hope I'd be able to follow the plot.

Yeah, the previous two games did introduce some characters and events from the books (plus some original characters that then appear later), but none of it is absolutely essential in order to be able to enjoy the Wild Hunt. :) It just adds more depth to the world.

Plus you can always cross-reference your log if you're really curious about some of the backstory.

so far it went fairly well. I mainly use the sword and the fire blast from time to time, but I just encountered minor enemies.
Zelda's combat were more difficult at the very beginning (or maybe I'm just getting better in using the switch, that's also possible)

Aard is very useful against humans with shields, or when fighting multiple humans - staggers them, gives you a better chance to pick them out one by one.

Btw what level did you guys choose for your first time?
I went for the one immediately after the easiest, just because I was too proud to choose the easiest directly. It has been an adequate level of challenging so far.

I went with that initially and then bumped it up to the next setting after a while. Then I got sick of healing being tied to consuming comedically large amounts of food rather than resting, so I bumped it back down. Then I just sort of waffled for the rest of the game. :p

Me too. If I drop £X+ for a game, I'm playing for the story and I want the story not to hit a boss battle thats Nintendo hard. I'll play easy and enjoy it

"Nintendo hard" refers not to the company's first-party titles but to NES/Famicom games in general tending to be absurdly difficult.

I’m proud to say that I did manage to beat the original TMNT game, Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2, and even ****ing Battletoads on my original NES. But yeah, those games were murder to finish.

To be honest, I don't remember at what level I played. :p But most likely the middle one - I don't want to just cruise through the game, but I also don't want it to be too hard. There were a few really tough boss fights where i just couldn't figure out the most efficient way of fighting (and that was extremely infuriating), but most of the time the game was very comfortably doable.
