Thanks for sharing the clips! I watched them eventhough didn't want to. I wanted to be mostly spoiler-free but saw the toy leak during the summer. So was like 'ok fine, that makes me want to see it more actually. But I'm not watching the commercials!!'

Supposedly that fight between Godzilla and Kong on the boats that's been shown in so many of the trailers and spots .... is part of an 18 minute long sequence in the movie.

If true ... /swoon

 

Anticipation seems pretty high for this one. I think it will be a hit. I heard the 18 minute fight is in the city at night. Unless the boat fight leads into the city fight.

 

Some sweet footage of Gojira in that footage (the tail swipe was pretty great. Nice sense of scale there.)

I’ll rent at some point (If it’s available beyond HBO).

 

IMAX, I will be seeing if on HBO Max. Either way its gonna be maximum destruction! Rawr!

I watched the original KK vs. Godzilla. The Japanese version. The Japanese version is probably better. It cuts out all the scenes of the Americans talking about dinosaurs and news updates and has the original score from the original G composer. It changes the tone of the film slightly, as Kong's theme is more somber and almost surreal. The satire angle is played up a bit, with guys betting on Kong and G like wrestlers. I'll have to watch it again to say which i like better. I did grow up with the American version so there is nostalgia there, and I associate the Creature From the Black Lagoon theme with Kong.

 

@Dagobahsystem We need to watch Godzilla vs King Ghidorah.

 

I grew up with the American version as well. It's near unwatchable for me anymore. I feel like only the Burr version of Godzilla managed to add American footage without hurting the narrative. The American version of KK vs Godzilla manages to stop the movie at multiple times (not to mention it straight up contradicts the events of the two previous movies--"The world is stunned to know that dinosaurs exist today"--even though it's already happened twice and the Japanese characters in the movie know who Godzilla is).

The Japanese version is superb, though. And the best thing about it--Ifukube's music!

 

Can you buy the Japanese version? I want it now. I watched it on youtube. Agreed the music is fantastic. Godzilla's second theme originated here, not in Godzilla vs. Mothra as it was first heard by American audiences.

 

It's actually included in the Criterion set. Outside of that you would have to get it from a bootlegger (which is what I basically did before the Criterion set was ever announced) or a Japanese import.

I do not know. I recently purchased the Criterion set that contains all of the Showa films.

 

I think Godzilla vs King Ghidorah is Heisei Era.

Ah yes, I was thinking of the 1964 Ghidorah film.

I also have the Heisei one you're talking about on blu ray. We can watch it whenever you want.
