Books Thrawn: Treason by Timothy Zahn Summer 2019

Excellent news. Do we know an actual month as opposed to Summer 2019?

(Yes, I do have purchases already planned across June-Aug 2019)

Imagine if Zahn uses this to bring back Admiral Zaarin. Zahn did actually reference him in Choices of One, after all - I actually think he's only the second non-Thrawn Grand Admiral that Zahn actually mentioned, and the only one not invented by him.

What if the secret about the Chiss that Thrawn is trying to protect is that they're actually a long-lost Duros colony?

 

And his facial expression hardens through each cover, going from somewhat mild-mannered, to more stern, stricter.

 

This will go well with my headcanon on what happens after season 4.

 

Sooner than I expected, but I'm not complaining.
Hopefully this overlaps with Rebels more than just 'In-between episodes'.
It would be interesting to get into the background a bit leading up to his defeat by space whales.
By the sound of it I half expect this to become part of an elaborate batman-gambit that allows him to help his people while still appearing loyal to the Empire.

 

Needs to be on every page.

 

He had the opportunity to do it in Alliances and he didn’t take it, and with this one he’s got Eli Vanto back and Karyn Faro presumably still with him...Zahn might not want to have three Watsons around in one novel.

 

Don't we already know how this tale will end? We know which side Thrawn is going to choose. We saw it at the end of Rebels.

Too early too speculate if he'll bring mara back in this one ?

 

Mirrors the use of the Marg Sabl maneuver now being something Thrawn learned from Ahsoka, rather than something he pioneered.

(I'm actually surprised that didn't come up in Choices of One, given that from the HTTE 20th Anniversary Edition comment, Zahn was excited about its use in TCW from the start, though I suspect if referencing Ahsoka in later novels wasn't encouraged at the time.)

 

True, plus it's going to be partially set on Coruscant so maybe we'll get a who's who of Imperials in this one.

Personally...I'm pulling for Pestage and Doriana cameos.

I'm wondering now if that speech to Ezra about "Who deserves what is irrelevant. What matters is who has power" was something he actually believed in or hinted at a kind of bitterness or disagreement with the Emperor. I really hope this will put things from the finale in a new perspective. Looking back at the finale, there were some moments Ezra looked at Thrawn or followed his movements. I wonder in hindsight if Ezra, besides his vision of Thrawn returning, picked up on some of his feelings during their interactions.

 

Filonius Monk and Zahn are probably still in cahoots since Rebels. They have a great deal of respect for each other, and I have a feeling Zahn is one of the few people Filoni would trust with the future of his characters.
