Does anyone else see this pattern in the titles?

The Phantom Menace
Attack of the Clones

Here, there's a sense of foreboding, threat and aggression. It's the beginning of conflict.

Revenge of the Sith

This title continues the theme of aggression and creation of problems, but it also has the retaliatory nature of the next set of titles:

A New Hope
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi

Hope strikes back and we return to the light.
Once that is done, we're ready for the next phase:

The Force Awakens

It's time to awaken, get out there and fulfill our destiny.
With that in mind, it would make perfect sense to use words like "Rise", "Ascension", "Completion", "Destiny"...

Right?

Episode IX: Return of the Chosen One

Episode VIII: Conquest of the Resistance
Episode IX: Destiny of the Force

 

I actually asked myself what subtitle I would pick for Episode VIII if I got to choose, without having read this thread. I went with "The Knights of Ren Advance," because it continues the pattern we see in II and V of "an organization does something aggressive." I know they'll never actually use it, though, because it's too long.

These would be perfect, if it weren't for the previously mentioned "Triumph of the Will" problem.

Agreed! I hope this happens.

Or these would be good, too.

The Ancient Fear was a rumored title for episode 7. If episode 8 reveals more about Snoke it could fit.

 

"The Last Jedi" is actually in that vein. What do you know!

It's still jarring, though.

Episode IX: Balance of the Force.

Episode VII: The Force Awakens

Episode VIII: The Last Jedi

Episode IX: From the Darkness

The Force awakens the last Jedi from the darkness.

 

In Snoke's first scene, we find references to "The Force Awakens" and "The Last Jedi" in his lines.
Perhaps the third title will also be linked to that dialogue? He mentions things like "Skywalker", "rise" and "the Knights of Ren"...
