To see this whiny boy grow into the grumpy old man we knew he'd become is amazing and about time!

Finally a director who spotted Luke’s suicide jump in TESB, his lack of belief in the Force as he trained, his lessons from his masters that told him to be willing to stay away from battle to win the larger war, all of his family’s issues with the Jedi, how the relationship between nephew and uncle was not as strong as father and son, and saw the saga’s history with masters in exile, and decided to avoid many of Luke’s strengths for about 15 minutes of running time and instead create a personal hell for him and some Luke fans where all of his weaknesses would come out. He had to know that’s what all Luke fans everywhere were hoping most to see. ;-)

I was worried we’d only get an idealized Luke, who embodied his strengths only, for the entire running time instead of the end only.

    :p

No one can deny the fact that Luke really does know how to milk. Which is always something.

For years, debates raged on about how quickly Luke moved on from his guardians being killed and burned by his father’s army but thanks to RJ we now have a loving milk tribute to Aunt Beru’s milk that proves that Luke is always thinking about his Aunt’s milk. Even decades later.

I was really impressed with his fishing skills. The grump got himself a hobby in his old age.

The first scene of Rey on Ahch To should have been one in which she walks up to Luke’s hut, only to find a sign on his X-Wing door reading ‘Gone Fishing’.

As much as I love Luke’s arc in TLJ I do have to admit that this line could have added a lot.

“I’m getting too old for this Bantha fodder!”

He must have found the instructions to it while searching for Jedi lore around the galaxy. Along with the milking manual.

What impressed me the most was his ability to walk those stairs at his old age. With out a cane no less!

Hey, he climbed a reasonably steep hill as well! Long strides, too. The man has still got it.

And he's like really old too, 50-60 something. That's impressive.

I couldn't believe how far he managed to toss his father's lightsaber. Great arm for an old dude.

I can't possibly give RJ enough kudos for giving Luke such a cannon. =D=

Forget about the stairs this young stud should take gold in the next olympics pole vaulting competition. His form is nothing short of majestic!

What I loved is how Johnson weaved in that Luke’s suicidal tendencies, when he couldn’t imagine a path to victory, had become known as part of his Legend.

Rey saw him jump and was like, “Nooooo! Not another Bespin jump again! There’s no air conditioning this time to save you!”

And Luke shot her back the look like, “A guy jumps once to his death and it stays with him forever!?”

    Awesome call-back.
