Whew! Gandalf has his plate full, no doubt about it. Yet events have been set in motion from his vigil that will lead to quite the conclusion in the future, to say the least.

It still hurts my heart to see how fully Gandalf trusts Saruman; he really has no reason to doubt his fellow Maiar - nor should he! I look forward to reading about his summons to Isengard in your next entry. =D=

    Fifteen --

This particular sequence of events is difficult to set down in writing because I was dismayed to finally have the true nature of one whom I had considered a trustworthy ally unmasked as sinister and treacherous. It was not that he succeeded to hold me captive for a time; this I could accept (being rescued eventually helped in this regard, as well), but it was the realization that he had been working at cross-purposes to our interests and the well-being of the inhabitants of Middle-Earth ... for how long?

Once I was at liberty again, my anxiety for my friends in the Shire intensified.

Saruman is evil and could hide that very good for him. And now; help the friends!

=(( =(( =(( Oh. This just hurt my heart. Of course Saruman's betrayal was so deeply felt - and that it's an echo of the larger rifts that he once suffered with his fellow Ainur makes that pain even worse. That question of how long has to be a haunting one!

But what's beautiful about Gandalf is that his concern is still for others. No matter what has happened to him, his heart remains with his friends. [face_love]

    Beautiful update! =D=

    Sixteen --

I went to the justly reputed land for fine horses, Rohan.

I requested of Theoden a steed of endurance and speed.

Théoden, realizing there must be an urgent need behind this, relented and gifted me with a unique mount, Shadowfax, who shimmered like liquid moonlight and moved as swiftly as eagles flew.

Shadowfax and I forged a swift bond, seeming to intuit one another's intent and according the other respect. His strength was indeed superlative, for which I was thankful, making quickest time to the Shire.

Fortunately, Frodo had already left the Shire without waiting for Gandalf, seeking the refuge of Rivendell. This relief was short-lived, for I learned that the Ring-Wraiths (Nazgûl), had been searching the area.

I sped onward towards Bree, not daring to hope what news I would discover.

SHADOWFAX. Shimmering like liquid moonlight and moving as swiftly as eagles flew - what a beautiful description! [face_love] [face_love]

I look forward to seeing what Gandalf finds in Bree. :D =D=

So nice to catch up on this story again.

I really love the tone of this piece. It sounds like what Gandalf would write in his diary and has that poetic quality that I associate with the Lord of the Rings book. It is also a real treat to travel all over Middle Earth with Gandalf and to see his thoughts on such a variety of characters from Lord of the Rings.

There is also a sort of epic but at the same time understated quality to the prose which I think is very fitting for Gandalf and reminds me a bit of Tolkien's writing style in a way that absolutely suits Middle Earth for me.

    Lines like these:

"The peace was transient. Sauron's power was resurgent. He rebuilt his stronghold."

    And

"Not all was dark. During this interval of time, I met the Heir of Isildur, Aragorn, even though his true identity was hidden from most. He proved to be a stalwart, invaluable ally in all my searches and surveillance."

Say so much in a short amount of space and contain so much wisdom an insight (just like we'd expect from Gandalf). It is magnificent.

And add me to the chorus of people who loved the description of Shadowfax as shimmering like liquid moonlight in the last entry.

You continue to do an excellent job with this diary. Bravo!=D=

To say the last few days have been eventful is quite the understatement!

Finding Frodo gone and then hurrying to Bree, to find that they had met up with 'Strider' gave a strong sense of relief.

However, an encounter with the Naz-Gul strained my battle prowess almost to its limits.

Thankfully, I prevailed and was in time to aid Glorfindel and Arwen in a timely rescue.

We all keep vigil on a seriously wounded Frodo... so much hangs on the balance of his recovery.

    Nineteen --

A Fellowship was formed to undertake the daunting task of Sauron's complete defeat by unmaking his One Ring. I did not know for certain how the personalities and motives of those involved would impact the likelihood of success, but as time progressed, the demands of crises and challenges forged a level of cooperation and team effort of necessity.
I was not able to guide the group as intended because of unforeseen events in the depths of Moria. These events and my later involvement may be undertaken and related by myself or others at a later time.

Great ending for his diary with hinting at a sequel? He is a great story-teller.

Wow, has it already been a year? It has!

These last two updates continued to be wonderful - I loved the Glorfindel and Arwen detail, in particular ;). And with the Fellowship off on their way, that presents a very natural place to break your tale. Even so, I have to echo @earlybird-obi-wan and say that Gandalf has been a fantastic narrator in your hands. There's certainly more than enough story waiting to be told in a sequel, should you be so inspired. I would be there to read that in a second. [face_batting] [:D]

Until then, thank you for sharing this beautiful foray through Middle-earth with us. =D= [:D]
