Yep. Luke throwing away his lightsaber is probz my least favorite in the whole saga. I even like Jar Jar smelling the eopie's fart better than that. When I saw him toss it back, I was like "OMG. HERE we go..."

I tried to spread the love evenly amongst the trilogy. Though I did give one extra entry to The Last Jedi since it's my favorite of the bunch. Scenes are roughly in chronological order. I tried to distill my list into the moments that I instantly think of when I picture each movie in my head. Scenes or moments that just keep coming back to me. Rise of Skywalker is my least favorite of the trilogy (I still like it a heck of a lot) but funnily enough it was the hardest to whittle down because it just had so many little moments that I enjoyed. Inconsequential bits, maybe, but stuff I look back on fondly. Anyway, here it goes:

The Force Awakens

1. Rey's intro and daily routine - Beautiful, economical storytelling. Great score. Instantly made me fall in love with Rey as a character.
2. The Jakku graveyard chase - I had a tough time picking between this scene and when Finn and Poe escape from the Star Destroyer. The graveyard chase won out due to the setting as well as the instant chemistry between Rey and Finn and their infectious back and forth after they win.
3. Rey catching the saber - Again, I had a hard time picking between this and Han's death. They both make me very emotional but there is something so beautifully simple about the image of the saber flying to Rey. John Williams doesn't hurt either.

The Last Jedi

1. Luke's first lesson and the force montage - I don't think I've seen a better representation of the Force than this. Luke is a conflicted character that has to learn a lot over the course of the film but he's 100% right about the essence of the Force. And the beautiful imagery that accompanies this scene is perfect.
2. The mirror cave and subsequent confrontation with Luke - I come away with a slightly different interpretation of the mirror cave every time I watch the movie. Very simple imagery but there's a wealth of meaning beneath the surface. Then Rey and Kylo touch hands and I get chills every time. Luke pulling the hut down with practical effects blows my mind too.
3. The throne room/execution/Holdo maneuver cross cut - Everything that needs to be said about this scene has already been said. It's perfect and the Praetorian Guard are probably my favorite new character designs from the sequels.
4. Luke's last stand - Unexpected, haunting, beautiful, inspiring. Love it to bits.

The Rise of Skywalker

1. 3PO being rebooted with his red eyes and spooky voice - I don't see this one mentioned very often but I love it! There's something about the flow of the scene, the rising tension, and then the record scratch as 3PO boots up and lets out his devilish riddle. I was on the edge of my seat. Anthony Daniels did an amazing job throughout the entire film but this was definitely a standout for me.
2. Rey taking the skimmer with John Williams' score in the background all the way through to Ben's conversation with Han - Too hard to cut this up into multiple moments. It's all pretty close to perfect for me. Only thing I wish was different was Palpatine's vault. Chuck Wendig wrote on his blog that it should have been littered with all sorts of arcane objects to illustrate how creepy the Emperor was and I agree.
3. The final confrontation with Palpatine - Again, hard to break this up. Rey arriving on Exegol wearing Luke's helmet, her tiny figure juxtaposed with the massive, brutalist architecture of the citadel, Daisy's amazing acting as she goes from maybe about to give in to Palpy, to sensing Ben's presence, to defiantly passing the saber. It's just too good. On first watch I was disappointed with the fight between Rey and the royal guards, but on subsequent viewings I appreciate that the battle wasn't a retread of the throne room scene in Last Jedi. She never uses her saber to kill any of them and I love it.
4. Okay I lied. I got this far and almost forgot about the final scene on Tatooine. This pushes my list to 11, but I absolutely adore this scene and I wouldn't change a thing about it. Rey Skywalker might have irked some, but not me. She spends the majority of the trilogy being told who she is (or isn't). Whether you liked "Rey Nobody" or not, at the end of the day it was Kylo once again trying to control her. For her to bear the burden of everything she goes through in these films and to come out the other side with the strength to decide for herself who she wants to be - it's a beautiful thing.

-Luke and Leia's reunion 'on' Crait
-Chewbacca reacting to Leia's death
-The arrival of the pan-galactic fleet and the "it's just people" line in particular
-Ghost Luke and Leia side by side

Honorable mentions: Rey's introduction, Rey and Finn meeting, the lightsaber showdown on Starkiller, DJ pointing out the war profiteering on both sides, Holdo's suicide attack (lore issues aside it looked incredible), Luke's final stand, C-3PO's 'goodbye', Han and Ben on the Death Star wreckage, and all the Sheev moments in RoS.

 

-The scene where the Republic gets blown up, meaning the OT cast fought for nothing-
-Luke just dying cause he's tired-
-Artoo is droid coma in TFA-
-Lando looking tired on Pasana-
-Han not knowing what's wrong with his own ship-
-Finn not understanding what child slavery is in TLJ-
-Hux getting unceremoniously murdered-
-Snoke getting unceremoniously murdered-
-Kylo falling down a pit instead of getting to fight Palpatine-
-"Rey Skywalker"-

 

1. Finn and BB-8 giving each other a thumbs up.
The most likable new characters in the ST forming a partnership is the best thing in this trilogy.

2. Luke and Yoda reunion
Yoda hitting Luke with his stick and both sitting together by the fire brings warm feelings to my heart.

3. The Emperor unleashing his Sith force lightening on the Resistance fleet.
As a Palps fan this made me giddy.

4. Rey's introduction
Probably JJ's most beautiful contribution to the galaxy far, far away.

5. Every. Single. Lando. Scene
Man with the cape is still proving to be the coolest character in all of Star Wars.

6. BB-8 taking over a FO walker.
Never underestimate a droid.

7. Han and Ben's reunion on the ruins of the second Death Star.
I actually got a little choked up at this scene.

8. Chewies reaction to Han's death.
Something about Chewbaccas bellows always gets to me.

9. The forest duel on Starkiller base.
Still the best duel of this trilogy IMO.

10. Luke and Leia reunion on Crait.
Such a sweet moment between brother and sister that I can relate to.
