At this point he's targeting anyone who is not explicitly with him.

It could be. And it would be looked at as legitimate by his supporters. I believe there were several hundreds of university deans. Not sure if they are teaching. Maybe just allowing it?

yankee8255, you're either with him or with the terrorists.

All political prisoners in Turkey are now denied the right to meet lawyers, family, & make phone calls too.

The Economist's characterization of his response as a counter-coup is quite on target.

That might've had more impact if there hadn't been so much European demagoguery about Turkish membership even when they were seemingly good actors.

It's too bad that my calling out your caricature of Turks as woman-eating Kurd-strangling monsters simply because they didn't want to support the precedent of violent overthrow of a democratically elected government has you so passive aggressive.

Many in the Turkish opposition, including liberals, spoke against the coup attempt as it was happening. It's almost like a rational thinking people can be against government overreach without supporting the law of the jungle to counteract it. Who would have thought?

So uh, I guess you didn't understand that post, because I was only calling Erdogan supporters that. Whether or not the coup attempt happened, Turkey under Erdogan would be getting less democratic and more authoritarian.

Right, so anyone who opposes the coup d'etat and supports the sitting legitimate popularly elected government of a democracy. Much better! [face_plain] I guess all Republicans - which is what, a third of the US population or more?- are racists and hate Mexicans too in your world.

Yeah, no ****. That's why I posted the article. That's exactly what the article says. However, it also says that the coup attempt, regardless of whether it had succeded or not, would have made the situation worse, which it undoubtedly has, as Erdoğan clearly wanted it to happen.
