I'm not a prude by any means, but doesn't anybody find it worrysome that Marvel and DC are including these two things a lot more in their books? I know it's not a new thing (I remember seeing MJ in lingerie in various '90s Spider-Man books),but these characters have usually always been aimed at children, and it seems like with the superhero comic market being now targeted for adults, wouldn't you think a parent would be upset to see such things if they bought one of the books for their kids? I'm just asking for a little levity, that's all. Did the new Supergirl REALLY have to walk around Gotham City stark-naked when she arrived on Earth (Sure,I read the explanation why she was nude in the Kryptonian spacecraft, but still,it strikes me as "Let's she her naked yeah yeah yeah!")? And if females must walk around in their underwear, can't it look less like something from Victoria's Secret, and more from Wal-Mart?

I kinda like the approach Dark Horse has with their SW comics on this matter. If women are undressed, they're usually in a bacta tank and/or wearing something more along the lines of what Sigourney Weaver had for underwear in Alien.

    What's your thoughts on this?

Most comics, Batman, Superman, Spiderman etc. are not really for kids at all anymore.

Why Micheal Turner is still allowed to draw I don't know.

I like one thing of his, his Identity Crisis Wonder Woman cover. Other then that it's all bad.

I did like his Batman in Superman/Batman, but otherwise yeah. For God's sake, don't let him anywhere near drawing a woman!

Why is that female superheroes look nothing like real women? They all seem to be overly curvy with large breasts.

Thats not entirely true. Black Widow and Sue Storm have traditionally had small breasts. Amanda Conner's women tend to be realistic, as those in Gail Simone's books. George Perez's women have fairly realistic proportions usually.

    Hello everyone
First off for the record I don't want to affend anyone so please don't fly off on me.
As far back as I can remember most comic book fans have "normally" been near teenage to teenage boys. Being so they have normally responded to that audience, but unlike past generations who when reached adulthood threw away there "childhood wants" this generation has keep reading. This resulted in a much larger base in the men's department. That being the case they have aimed there comics to still point towards male gender. (I am a male by the way)
Although I do remember seeing many male characters being nude including but not limited to. Superman, batman, Cyclopes, Spiderman, ect...
Granted these apprencies are not as often but lets be honest women are just sexier then men. A matter of fact the only male lingeray
would be the tarzan like look or just underwear.
I think female nudity is just noticed much more because it's so much more erotic.

They are also drawn by formerly impressionable young men who are now old impressionable men.

Basically, all hot super wimmins are drawn like pornstars and super models. Look at that Power girl pic:

At the last comic convention I went to there wa sa stripper there(Not performing, just advertising) who had boobs like that. That is not attractive.

    [image=http://www.newsarama.com/dcnew/June07/CTDW_Cv47_solicit.jpg]

That's what? Female Shazzam? I've seen petite girls built like that, boobs and all. I don;t know, as with all things in all genres, men are practical while the women are objects.

Same reason most men don't have anything resembling Batman's physique. It's, you know, not meant to be real

Actually if "we" men had the money and worked out as much as Bruce Wayne did we'd have bigger bodies. Unfortunatly we can have neither:<. Also I actually know some woman built like that who are not strippers, or models. Granted there not many of them, but lets face it not many people want ugly unattractive super hero's. It's our culture as a whole. Also I draw both men and women. Out of the two women are harder to draw especially if you don't make them top heavy. It makes them look B-less. Although I have to admit I'm not a fan of every super female having D to DD size cups. Again comics is mostly male driven and male read.
Granted there are female readers and the like but a majority have recently entered the comic book world. Like many other things when the oppiste sex or another type of person enters something there going to find things they don't enjoy. May wife for instance enjoys watching movies that show half nude men but throws a fit if there's a woman in here underwear or swim suit.

I was thinking of those covers when I saw the thread title. I think the mary marvel cover is fine, part of "seduction of the innocent" but Powergirl's boobs, wow...

Powergirl has always been well endowed. Check out her first meeting with the JSA, which was also her debut, I believe.

Michael Turner, however, goes overboard with Kara in the JLA/JSA crossover cover.

There was a recent picture in an early 52 that had Rene Montoya and another women in bed together just covered by carefully placed bed sheets. It did catch me off guard. I didn't think that they would show something like that.

Also, when i was yonger my mom made me and my brother stop geting some x-men comics because of psylocks costume.

I read one of the early issues of 52 online, and it had Rene Montoya and her partner sleeping together in bed,and they were both wearing their bra and panties. Talk about a male's fantasy.

Somehow, thinking about it,it bothers me that superhero comics have become more for adults than kids. It seems schizophrenic to market Supergirl items to little girls, but have her walking around naked in the comics, and to make Spider-man items for toddlers, but feature him in violent projects like Marvel Zombies.

I heard Infinite Crisis was supposed to create a brighter DC universe. I guess that wasn't the case,if everything about 52 I've heard is correct.

You all realize that almost every comic like everything else has a maturity rating on them? They actually have some superman/Spiderman comics ment for ten year olds. While others are made for 13+,or even 18+. It's just like anime. Granted they
do have more comics for the older age levels but those age levels have money. I remember before I could buy my own comics my parents only got me a few a year and if it was a multi issue I was just out of luck.
Plus look at tv and our culture it's changing. Also I spent 5 years over seas and people would laugh at the comotion we make over nudity and sexuality.
