Funny thing is that Cameron will not have the king crown ( or whatever trophy you get) for having the number one film in his own home country for 2022. USA is still the worlds biggest movie market. Thats Top Gun Mavericks crown. Not that i think he sits down and cries because of that. It is still a bit of a surprise.

 

James Cameron has officially beaten himself - he has just gone past Titanic with Avatar 2 now the 3rd highest grossing film of all time- congrats

Well, it looks like Cameron wanted to play puppet master and keep Titanic above Avatar 2 at the #3 with this rerelease- thing is, he must have thought Avatar 2 would get this far, as it was planned months ago. Avatar 2 may still re-pass Titanic, and surely would with rereleases (when Cameron is trying to play puppet master again).

It looks like @Sarge gets to be smug in being right- it does not look like Avatar 2 will pass Top Gun 2 domestically. Then again, Top Gun probably doesn't have a wizard behind the curtain that will rerelease it, so Avatar 2's eventual rerelease may pass it.

I never realized until recently that the reviews and reception for the first Top Gun were so mixed. I was in high school when I saw it in the theater and have always owned a copy; love the movie so much I hate anyone that doesn't like it.

Both are nominated for best picture.

 

I don't like the original Top Gun. Yeah, it's got some fun moments, iconic lines, and cool planes, but it gets so much wrong that I can't watch it without rolling my eyes. After Goose dies all the fun goes out of it and for me, it never recovers from that.

 

I think the original Top Gun is pretty dull and very dated. The new one is just so much fun.

 

So Jeff Sneider is pretty sure (or 100% sure) this is the Lindelof film?

 

Ok, the film will be called Celebration.

 

Avatar is the king of sting sorry and James Cameron will kick everyone's but. He has done it with Avatar, Avatar 2 and Titanic and definitely will do it with Avatar 3. Star Wars? yeah okay when is the next cancellation and the tv series? It starting to not look so good on the streaming stuff. The Mandalorian short of making bringing in Grand Thrawn and a super fleet could be a bit of a downer. And the film won't be called a celebration but more like a cancellation
