I can't see the problem most people have with the EU? Just because they don't wanna read it, doesn't mean others are stupid and ignorant because they do! I CERTAINLY can't see why some people think it makes them LESS of Star Wars fans!

I don't know. From the trailers and spy reports, it doesn't seem like much has been contridicted. It can be fixed.

    Movies only.

I'm not against the EU, but those stories just aren't part of the "Real" Star Wars, which is created by George Lucas and no one else. Period.

almost all EU is cannon. lots of stuff from varring sources is mentioned in offical lucusbooks work i.e. the new guides

note on countinuy: even the films have contridited each other i.e. ben telling luke that yoda trained him but EP1 has some one else traning him

I voted for the latter, but I don't really get into the 'canon/non-canon' debate. For me I accept what I like and dismiss the rest - since the main point of it all is to entertain I couldn't give a damn whether it was written by GL or some other author as long as I can like and accept what I see/read. If I don't like it I dismiss it. Simple.

My philosophy is that the events happened, but not neccissarily the details within.

Everything that does not have an infinities label on it and is considered canon by LFL is canon, IMO. That means books, movies, video games, everything.

It's much easier to fix a contradiction with a retcon than to make it apocrypha.

I consider only the movies (and therefore their novelisations) as Canon. The EU is just..... EU. I accept some of it, and not other bits, but don't consider it canon as such.

Hm. The percentages of this poll don't add up to 100%. :)

Oh, on-topic, though, I voted that the EU is canon.

EU is canon. That doesn't mean that I agree or like everything that has been done with it, but I think a lot of that is because I don't like the author's style, etc.

Most of the EU that I have read takes place long ago. I consider Tales of the Jedi to be some of the finest EU Star Wars material out there.

    Taken from Webster.com

    can·on
    Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Old English, from Late Latin, from Latin, ruler, rule, model, standard, from Greek kanOn
    Date: before 12th century

3 [Middle English, from Late Latin, from Latin, standard]
b : the authentic works of a writer
c : a sanctioned or accepted group or body of related works <the canon of great literature>

As much as I hate to admit it, according to the definition, the EU would count as 'sanctioned' and 'accepted'.

I'm not a fan of the EU as a whole. I like parts, but there are some things I just can't get my head around. *laugh*

I personally like to consider EU cannon, unless it directly conflicts witht he movies, in which case i grudgingly admit that the movies are superior cannon :p
