I am starting this thread as it was pointed out to me that the board focuses more heavily on modern collectors and collections at the moment. This thread is to discuss vintage collections and collectibles.

I started out collecting vintage items, and they still remain the most favorite items in my collection. I have since moved to collecting all things Star Wars. Here is a list of some of the vintage items I have in my collection:

    - 12 back Leia carded fig
    - 12 back R2 carded fig
    - 12" 1978 Leia MIMB
    - ESB Vader carded fig
    - ESB Dengar Carded fig
    - ESB Tusken Raider
    - ROTJ Lando carded fig
    - ROTJ R2 carded fig
    - ROTJ R5-D4 carded fig
    - All the loose vintage figures including weapons and accessories
    - All 3 metal lunch boxes with thermos
    - 1 POTJ with coin carded A-Wing pilot
    - 1 Custom carded vintage yak face with coin
    - 1 vintage Tie Interceptor
    - Vintage AT-AT
    - Vintage Slave 1
    - All the vintage Burger king glasses
    - Vintage poster from 1978 depicting Vader and Ben Kenobi in lightsaber battle
    - All the vintage fan club buttons
    - Vintage pins and patches
    - Vintage shoelaces, toothbrushes, combs, erasers, socks, handbags, shoes, clocks, soaps, candles, greeting cards, tablecloths, bedspread, towels, records, and books, t-shirt decals, topps trading cards, stickers, and other miscellaneous.
    - 4 vintage sealed Kenner puzzles
    - 1 Vintage droid factory in box
    - 1 vintage board game
    - vintage Tantaun, X-wing, and landspeeder

I am sure there are other items, but that is all that comes to mind at the moment.

I am pretty much a vintage only collector. I just posted to the "Collection Pictures" thread, so check that out if you wanna see my stuff.

One thing I would like to say to all the modern collectors is that vintage isn't really as expensive as everyone seems to think. I picked up a *really* nice carded ROTJ Nein Nunb this week for $12 on ebay. There are so many cheap vintage things you can get. Sure, there's also expensive stuff, but it's not *all* expensive. You can pick and choose and build a very nice vintage collection very cheaply.

Vintage just has a charm that modern toys can't match, IMO. There's just something about them being 20 years old and the actual toys I played with as a kid that can never be replaced. Call it nostalgia I guess.

Anyway, thanks for starting this vintage thread Linda. Hope we see some good post
    s here.

I have about 30 loose (most incomplete) figs.

A loose Taun Taun w/ closed belly

I still have 99% of my SW toys from childhood.
My Fav's being the Imperial Commander and the ATAT Commander, all are in good shape with medium to slight paint wear, except the old 4LOM now Zuckuss he got slightly chewed by my dog not long after I bought him :(

My biggest lose is I gave my Gamorean Guard money box & 12" Stormy to my nephew, he doesn't even remember having them. :(
really sad considering Steve Sansweet (? the name) says the money box is the Holy Grail of SW's collectables.

Just about all the vintage stuff I got is from my brother. He gave me his stuff when I was really little, so I lost all the accessories. :(

I do buy loose vintage figures at antique stores once in a while, and my mint on card ROTJ Jedi Luke is my favorite collectible.

My old neighbor once offered me for free, a Chief Chirpa figure he had.

I would have accepted the offer if the whole thing wasn't colored in green marker. :(

Oh, and I had a Boba Fett from my brother that has the rocket torn off his back. I guess he thought he could launch the rocket, but ripped it out instead. [face_laugh]

I don't even have him anymore, since I have a normal vintage Boba. I gave his rocketless clone to my best friend, who would sacrifice his life for Boba Fett.

I'm not sure how much the Slave 1 is. The local comic book shop has it, and I havn't been able to see it yet/he hasnt givin me a price (he put it in the basement to make room).

And the bidding frenzy has begun. This thread sent me all over ebay looking for more carded ROTJ figs for cheap prices :p .

Lets see, I mainly collect unbuilt model and rocket kits, many of them being vintage. I got rid of most of my vintage played with toys about ten years ago, but I kept all my Micro Collection toys and added a Falcon to the stash soon after.

Of my remaining vintage figs, I have a couple Stormtroopers, maybe a Hoth Snowtrooper and a vintage Obi-Wan Kenobi. The Kenobi fig was in good shape, but missing his light saber blade and vinyl cape. So, I gave him the saber and cloak from the Obi Wan pilot and he looks great now with that hooded brown cloak. I figure I'll get the Saga Landspeeder also, since he should look perfect with the Luke fig in that set.

Most prized vintage toy is a windup Takara R2-D2 that my parents got for me in Okinawa when my original Kenner fig went missing. It is a little worn with missing and curled stickers. But the dome is still chromed and it still walks just fine. I was going to take it to C2 and have it signed by Kenny Baker, but I forgot to pack it when I went there. Ahh well. :)

Oh yeah, how could I forget?
Some other favorites from the vintage line:
--Boba Fett (how'd I ever forget HIM?)
--Landspeeder (which I used to fly around in my hand and pretend it was an AIRspeeder! :D)
--Any of the other bounty hunter figures

    Raising hand....

When you guys say "vintage"...do you mean the stuff from the 70's?

I have very little of the stuff from the 70's...a great deal of my stuff is from the early 90's (and of course the new stuff)..

the 70's stuff is a little expensive (even though I was a fan from the beginning...I really didn't do much collecting then) and I don't particularly care for too much of the 70's stuff...when you compare the sculpting of the figures and the electronics of today's stuff....well....visually the new stuff really is awesome!

So, here's a question for you all. Why do or don't you collect more vintage? Is it the price? The asthetics? What is it? And please explain.

To answer my own question, for me it's all about the toys I had as a kid. The new stuff has zero interest for me because I never played with that stuff. Sure, it looks good, but I'm not about looks, I'm about reliving my childhood. :)

I don't think price is an issue either. I think that's a very common misconception. People see $500 carded figures and think all vintage is too expensive when really the $500 figure is more the exception than the rule.

How many modern era figures are there now? Something like 400 or so. Paying even $5 a pop for each amounts to $2000. And that doesn't count all the ships and playsets and 12" figures and variations, etc., etc. That kind of money can get you a pretty nice vintage collection. You could get a complete set of loose vintage figures plus throw in a few ships for $2k. Of course, you'll have about 100 figures, not 400, but it's not always about quantity right? :)

Just to make it clear - as is seems some aren't sure of this. Vintage means 70's and 80's toys. The early POTF stuff from 1995 is not vintage - that's the beginning of the modern era.

I usually go for the cheaper ($20-50) carded ROTJ figures. I'd love to get some of the more expensive ones, but not until I get a job.

Get this. Someone on Rebelscum just got a tri-logo Yak Face w/ crystal clear bubble and very nice card for only $150 with BIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only problem was that there was a small crack on the bottom of the bubble.
