    I only changed one shot, but I think it's more fitting and does a much better job of getting the point across that I wanted to make.

    Vader Extends a Hand to Next of Kin

    [image=http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb188/Falls_The_Shadow/Visual_Storytelling/VaderAnakinextendahand.jpg]

    Even absent the power of telekinesis, Vader's gesture to his wife on Mustafar exudes suffocating violence.

    In contrast, the open palm pleading gesture on Bespin towards Luke is the first sign of the conflict beneath the mask. That this pleading gesture comes from Vader's left hand, usually associated with evil, adds to the contradictions of the pleading lord. Imagine if Vader had used this gesture on Mustafar instead.

    For a child of a desert planet, perhaps he recognized belatedly the wisdom behind his daughter's taunt:
    "The more you tighten your grip, Tarkin, the more star systems will slip through your fingers." Princess Leia

    To attempt to force love or trust is like gripping a fistful of sand.

    Perhaps in the years between, Vader reviewed some body language manuals. Picture this title in Vader's office library:

    Body Language for Dummies - Google Books Result
    by Elizabeth Kuhnke - 2007 - Psychology - 338 pages
    The open palm The open hand is an ancient sign of trustworthiness. ... Figure 9-1: The open palm indicates honesty and trustworthiness. ...

    The shots also put Luke in the same position as his mother Padmé in relation to Vader.
