I think I could have gotten used to it if it was from season 1.

Ian Abercrombie's take on Sidious/Palpatine is more convincing. He doesn't sound as sincere/convincing as Chancellor Palpatine, and the guy has to be a good actor/liar.

If I wasn't that experienced or was too busy, I might buy that someone who sounded like Ian Abercrombie's Palpatine was sincere or deluded.

The late great Ian Abercrombie takes this one. I loved his performance as Chancellor Palpatine.

Abercrombie by leagues. Curry's Sidious was good, his Palpatine terrible. Abercrombie was great in both roles and wasn't too vocally distant from the quintessential Ian.

If they could have afforded to pay Liam Neeson to voice Qui-Gon in a few episodes, they surely could have afforded to pay Ian McDiarmid, I suppose.

That is a good question. I'm guessing that he was paid a lot, considering how famous he is. Similarly, they would have to pay Natalie Portman a lot if they asked her to voice anyone. However, actors like Ian McDiarmid aren't that famous or successful outside of theater, even though they are excellent performers, and so he wouldn't cost as much. In theory, I suppose they could have paid him and asked him to record lines in a studio in London or something. But, then, we don't really know what his health has been like after that 2008 heart attack or if he has retired or semi-retired.

I wonder. Well, for those of you who liked Abercrombie, which episode or group of episodes do you feel contained his best performance? I would say his best take on Sidious is in The Lawless, since it's subtle and yet terrifying. His best take on Palpatine probably would be in the Old Friend/Rise of Clovis/Crisis at the Heart arc.
