Warlords models

I have a bunch of models from SW: Warlords http://warlords.swrebellion.com/ that I want to release for community use, I'm looking for mirrors to host the files (around 500 mb zipped) since I know I'll annihilate our servers bandwidth (1 TB is only 2000 downloads so I don't want bandwidth bills) any suggestions on where to have the files hosted would be appreciated.

these models make great background and game models (depending on the engine also) or for templates for high detail models and I am providing them openly to the community (partly to eliminate some posturing in different modding groups and primarily because I've been asked repeatedly for the models, so providing openly them is the least I can do to stop my inbox from getting hammered.) I intend to update this periodically as I model more ships, but don't come asking for anything I'll just tell you to go away

poly counts are around 2K - 15K

a few ships are missing either by my discretion or because I could not release them because they are not my models/textures and the authors could not be contacted in time for this release.


these models can be used freely in ANY media or games and I only ask that if you improve upon them either texture or model that I recieve a copy (which can then be redistributed in this model pack at the individuals request) if used for a high detail mesh template I'd be appreciative of a copy of the finished high detail model (especially on some of the concept/darkempire designs) and if it is used in a mod I want a link so I can make a compiled linklist and follow how much they are used.


some ships may not reflect their official renditions (or naming whatever), in some cases the models were made before official images could be found, or I was not aware of them, or I simply despised them or felt I should make my own changes, though I strived to be accurate to the universe(sometimes SW art is atrocious and needs to be fixed ), all of the ships are based off of concepts and art from the star wars universe.

models are in alias wavefront .obj format, they include in most cases 2-3 level of detail models and detail meshes, engine glow meshes, collision and shield meshes and debris meshes, as well as occasionally turrets

in terms of scale, details and other considerations, everything is provided as is, the models are scaled to 1 unit = 1 meter and are rotated to sit in a openGL enviroment, if you have a problem with something see above about the models being as is.

textures are in PSD format (i hope I can rerelease with a different format like tga for greater compatibility, but I simply don't have the time now to convert all of them), the first layer is usually a diffuse layer, with the second layer being a composited glow/specular layer, team stripes can be extracted fro mthe alpha channels of this layer (green is emission, blue is specular), the third layer is usually a base layer that can be used for anything or nothging. in most cases the textures are a single file between 512x512 and 1024x1024, but some may differ and some detail textures are provided.

some ships may share textures, in most cases they can be found in the ISD folder or the star battleship folder in the Imperial file.

UVing is messy, textures are messy, models are messy, some things simply aren't done... live with it, if you can make it better and have the time to do so then more power to you

maybe you could ask scifi3d to nhost them but i don't know how much their bandwich is etc.........so

 

already sent an email a week ago, I think you're right about the bandwidth. I guess I'll have to chop the files up a bit more, but still, people will most likely get all of them regardless of how they are split up.

 

Why not make a torrent? I'd be willing to seed it for a couple months

Unlimited Traffic but max. 100mb per file. So you must split it.

Had to dig in the FAQ for this, not sure if its for the end-user or just the file in general. Either way it would make downloads much slower.
