This is just a gentle reminder that Trump's efforts to cut $252 million in Ebola funding from the federal budget merely to repudiate more of the Obama legacy makes him basically a subhuman. He is our Turd-in-Chief.

The $252 million carried over from the 2015 budget had been earmarked for building local capacities react to future Ebola outbreaks, one of which is now here.

The reality is that Ebola never goes away. Most people just only paid attention to the one major outbreak that's happened. But Ebola, particularly Ebola Zaire, causes outbreaks every couple years and has done since the 70s.

All the more reason that we should never have cut that funding.

yes, that's exactly right. I don't think anyone believes that we eradicated Ebola once the last epidemic ended, but as you say, the administration apparently needs to be reminded that spending money to support African nations in contending with small outbreaks not only saves lives in Africa, it keeps the small epidemics from becoming large epidemics, and it keeps the large epidemics from spreading, like the 11 cases in the U.S. and the 15 cases in the EU.

It's better border security than a ****ing wall.

During that outbreak, I wrote to multiple Senators who sit on the committee responsible for funding overseas efforts, to make that exact same point.

Only one replied.... To tell me they wouldn't be responding to my email because I wasn't their constituent [face_plain]

Glad to hear they'll send some of the trial vaccine. But it's telling that they didn't already have it out and available to people in high risk areas over the last few years. They only care about it once it's news.

The current Ebola outbreak is now the second largest ever and will last at least another six months as WHO efforts contend with armed conflict and ignorance of the disease in the region. Some areas where WHO believes the disease is spreading are completely inaccessible to healthcare workers.

Nearly 1,400 dead in the Congo epidemic, including the first deaths in Uganda, which has prepared for this eventuality in part by providing the new vaccine to hundreds of healthcare workers.
