The Emperor shall return in Episode 7, it has been confirmed by Latioreview.com who is very very on point with their spoilers.

Now here is the Speculation, we know Ian McDiamard will repise his role and current rumors seem to indicate that he will be in Spirit form as a force ghost. Prehaps he will return to guide a young Sith who will be none other the the Son or Daughter of Han and Leia, and push them to the Dark path. This child will gain power, almost unlimted Power. because he or she will be fed that power by Sidious until he overwhelms them and he or she is forced to fight their own uncle Luke Skywalker and overcome him to become a real Sith.

They will be defeated at the end of Episode 7 but Sidious will use this as a jumping point to return in a clone body for Episode 8 and 9....................

I think something like this is right for JJ Abrams to direct as he will bring about the mystery, the classic Star Wars Drama and the Action and the feeling of Star Wars with John Williams full blast theme in tow.
