Sorry if it's a stupid question, but someone please explain to a poor Swedish girl in your country what's up with the English and carpets.

They're everywhere. I thought it was only a myth, but apparently not. So, pretty please with load of cream on top, tell me...why do you love them? I need to know.

Well, i personaly have wood flooring here, not over keen on carpets, and they're old fashioned too in my oppinion.

But i think they are so well liked generally (especialy by old people), because they're soft, and warm in winter.....

    That's my theory anyway. :D

While the rest of Northern Europe build houses properly, with good insulation, we... er... we have carpets.

Well, they gather dust and Mites for starters, no matter how often you use a vacume cleaner. [face_mischief] :p

Carpets do serve a practical purpose, no doubt, and of course there are some very nice carpets around. A friend of mine has a very strange carpet, looks and feels like a wicker basket.

The only reason i don't like carpets though, is because that then involves a long time hoovering the house.

Also, having wooden floors is great for sliding along, wearing socks, or novelty slippers.

    Whats wrong with carpets?
You can't expect me to walk around my living room on hard wood. I could stand on a nail.

I don't have a carpet in my bathroom or kitchen...I'm not that weird :p

*snorts* Oh, yes, you are! This is just the glimps of sanity that allows us to understand the extent of your total corruption...

    *frowns* Something, like that, yeah...

Actually, the thing about carpets... Well, they're good for keeping your feeth warm, I can see that. Especially since they've turned off the heat here for the summer, not caring to consider that it is, in fact, not summer. It's bloody freezing in the staff block!

But...old carpets are kinda...nasty. You know, not too clean. And I'm getting a bigger room, but there is one problem - well, two actually, the other being the strange smell - and that is the carpet. It's somewhat less than...fresh.

Of course, they tell me it will be removed and replaced. Some time.
