    What do you imagine happening?

Would she stick with her husband and live miserably with Vader, while disagreeing with him, living like a prisoner?
Would she live with him and agree with all he does? (I definitely have a hard time seeing that one)
Going into hiding and become bitter and hate her husband?
Live in the outer-rim changing her name and doesn't care about the galaxy anymore?
Go into hiding and move on with her life?
    Become like Black Swan?
Live in hiding before coming out years later bitter, with a vengeance against Vader and Palpatine blaming them for all that has happened to her?

There is quiet a bit more possibilities..that are way better than losing the will to live

Considering how she felt there was still good in Vader, I think she would have stayed and tried to turn him back to the Light Side of the Force. Of course that would confuse Vader even more and her presence would have forced Palpatine to take action against her.

Just to clarify so people don't misunderstand my first post, I am NOT staying Padme going dark is better than losing the will to live, nor would I want all of those things I listed to happen. I just listed them as possibilities. I think Lucas could have done many things to Padme that would have been more interesting than what we got in ROTS.

I actually would find it interesting if she lived in hiding raising Luke and becoming somewhat bitter. I wouldn't want her to stay that way, but I would find a story where she becomes cynical and mistrusting of people, but regains her compassion before the end.

I think right at the point where Obi-Wan intervened, Padme was ready to turn away from Anakin before joining him in his actions. She asked him one final time "come away with me" and he refused. I think that was it for her. She certainly may have tried to reason with him from then on, but I don't think there was any chance Padme would have sat around as the Lady of the Empire.

I think she would have ran away and went into hiding.

Vader would have stalked her to the ends of the galaxy. Seeing the resources at his disposal, eventually he would have caught up with her. Eventually, she would die, probably at Vader's hands, or at the hands of her pursuers, or in some accident trying to escape.

One way or another, along the way I think Padme would have left the kids somewhere she thought they were safe. Perhaps Vader would have tracked them down, too.

She would've likely had to leave the kids for their own protection and either go into hiding or be the head of the Rebellion. It actually was how I imagined what had happened to Padme. She was the former head of the Rebellion before she was killed, then Leia took over.

She should have... her death should have been left a mystery. (Or an EU novel if absolutely necessary) Not everything needs explained.

If Padme lived, Vader would have either joined her eventually, or not as seen in ROTS. My question would be in how the Emperor got Anakin to see the Jedi as evil from a certain point of view. I understand it to some extent but I am confused.

Anakin wanted to save his wife from childbirth death. If she didn't die, then his attempt to save her would have felt pointless or very bad. He could go on to blame the Emperor and ultimately himself to some extent & he would have turned back to the light side and would have sought revenge against the Emperor. He would have eventually leave the Sith and go off with his wife..... but maybe they would get a divorce or a restraining order and she would probably never forgive him to some extent for permanently or temporarily going to the dark side of the force.... and for turning against the Jedi.....

If she lived and if Vader sought reconciliation instead of divorce, they might have found a way to go into hiding from the Emperor or find a way to kill the Emperor.... but only if Padme found a way to forgive him for killing jedi younglings.... and for the thing with Mace Windu going out the window.....

But Padme would have probably divorced Anakin or something..... which would probably lead him back to join the Emperor.... and they would probably find her and kill her or use her as a slave....

It seems that he just wanted to be with her. That is what he would say. they talked about how things could change after the war. Somehow, the Emperor persuaded him to do whatever necessary to save her and then the Emperor got him to see the Jedi as evil. I am sorry for talking about all of this. I know this thread is not about Anakin and his turn to the dark side and the Emperor and the Jedi Purge and those other things.

So, to get back on topic, I would say that if Padme survived, she would have ran away (go into hiding) but if the Emperor knew then he would have still said that Vader killed her or something like what he said to Vader in ROTS.

So, in conclusion, if she didn't die, then she would probably eventually die... unless if Ben and Yoda and others found ways to help protect her like they protected Leia in ANH. I prefer that Padme stay in the Rebellion and then she could be in the Rebels cartoons.

Dear Disney, find a way to undo her death and get Padme into the Rebels cartoons.

If she hadn't died when she did, Palpatine would have arranged an 'accident' to take care of her soon enough. Her loss was driving Anakin to the Dark Side but all the time she's alive, she would be Anakin's number one priority - either 'protecting' her if she stayed with him (willingly or not) or finding her if she summoned up the courage and will to flee (which is what I believe would happen in this hypothetical situation.) He wouldn't be totally under Palps' thumb until she was gone, and Palpatine knows it.

In the EU, there was some interesting speculation by Palpatine/Sidious, in Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader, set right after ROTS:

Not for the first time Sidious wondered what might have happened had Anakin not killed Padme on Mustafar. For all she loved him, she never would have forgiven Anakin's action at the Jedi Temple. In fact, that was one of the reasons Sidious had sent him there. Clone troopers could have dealt with the instructors and younglings but Anakin's presence was essential in order to cement his allegiance to the Sith, and more importantly, to seal Padme's fate. Even if she had survived Mustafar, their love would have died- Padme might even have lost the will to live- and their child would have become Sidious's and Vader's to raise.

That is pretty interesting actually. On a slight tangent from that: what if Palpatine had known she was still alive long enough to have the child (everyone assuming there was just the one of course.) Would he have gambled on the new Skywalker taking after daddy Force-potential wise and left Anakin to die? It would be a shame for all that work turning Anakin to go to waste but if Palpatine could literally raise a brand new super-powerful Sith apprentice FROM BIRTH then Anakin wasn't needed any longer.

Maybe he knew everything - and gambled that letting Obi-Wan stay free and raise Luke would actually play into his own hands?

Still - that might be giving him too much credit.

Palpatine is just too much of a control freak to just let someone with the potential power of the Skywalker genes go free, much less under the supervision of the one Jedi who understood Anakin best. He probably had an inkling that the kid survived the birth and that Leia was actually Anakin's/Padme's daughter but only after the Death Star debacle did he realise there were two - and he'd been keeping tabs on the wrong one. After all, having an influential anti-Imperialist raise the offspring of the most powerful force user known thus far is EXACTLY what Palpatine would have done in their position. Leaving the kid stuck on some backwater crime pit to his own devices would never even cross his mind.

If Padme had lived, it wouldn't have been for long in my opinion because Sidious can't have anyone trying to get Vader to see the error of his ways. I doubt Sidious knew about Luke until after the Death Star incident, and I highly doubt if he had any inkling that Leia was also a Skywalker. If he did, he would converted or killed them long before they became a threat.

I think the idea of Padme being assassinated by Sidious shortly after the events of ROTS makes total sense. He's never cared for her ("The thought of losing you...is unbearable."), and she would now be Anakin's focus. Add to it that she is probably working against the Empire (or at the least, doesn't have any kind words about it), and it makes her even more of a target. Her being assassinated makes much more sense to me than dying of...nothing really.

I love this. Let Obi-Wan take care of the kid - Luke is sure to become Sith with Obi-Wan in charge of his care.

I can even see Sidious playing mind games with Anakin enough to drive him into a rage to the point where he DOES kill Padme. I mean, he choked her on Mustaphar, he didn't actually finish her off on that occasion but his 'love' has clearly crossed the line into dangerous obsession. One way or another, Padme is dead by the time of the Original Trilogy.

I'm not sure, maybe Sids would have told Vader that Padme died, even if she had survived childbirth. As long as Vader thought she was dead then the effect was the same.

It's my guess that if she had survived she would have gone into hiding, probably helped by Bail Organa and Mon Mothma (we see in a ROTS deleted scene, that they're creating the rebel alliance before the Empire is even establised). she most likely would still have to give one of the twins up, so that they did not attract attention. Imagine if she kept Luke and went to raise him on Tattooine with Obi Wan, Luke would have started ANH by being the most powerful dude in the universe :p

I think it could've only went two ways if Padme did indeed live.

She either would've kept the twins and tried to coax Anakin back to the light with the promises of their family remaining intact and untainted. She would've tried to sweet talk him into doing the right thing in overthrowing the Emporer and trying to fix the Republic and rebuild the Jedi Order starting with the remaining Jedi and their kids.

Or she would've given them up to Obi Wan/ Bail and kept a distance in order to protect them from the inevitable of Darth Vader hunting her down. She would've allowed Luke and Leia to continue with their destiny's in their roles in defeating the darkside and rebuilding the Republic.

Well, if we're assuming everything prior to her actual death played out the same way then she would remember Anakin ranting about HIS new Empire, overthrowing Palpatine, generally undemocratic ranting not to mention the teeny tiny detail of his attempting to choke her through the Force. I can't see her trying to coax him back after that if I am honest, he's gone too far even for Padme by that point even if she survives the process. She would probably try and give up the children for their own safety as you said but I think she'd be not only Vader's number one target - he's obsessed with her entirely - but also Sidious', as not only would she be a distraction for his new apprentice but she'd be a very valuable political asset for Bail and other anti-Imperials on multiple levels.

Like I say... Padme was never going to survive until the OT period. Ever.

And in the novelization she even seems to have a presentiment along those lines:

Bail couldn't hear Padme over the din, but he could read her lips.
So this is how liberty dies, she was saying to herself. With cheering, and applause.
"We can't let this happen!" Bail lurched to his feet. "I have to get to my pod—we can still enter a motion—"
"No." Her hand seized his arm with astonishing strength, and for the first time since he'd arrived, she looked straight into his eyes. "No, Bail, you can't enter a motion. You can't. Fang Zar has already been arrested, and Tundra Dowmeia, and it won't be long until the entire Delegation of the Two Thousand are declared enemies of the state. You stayed off that list for good reason; don't add your name by what you do today."
"But I can't just stand by and watch—"
"You're right. You can't just watch. You have to vote for him."
    "What?"
"Bail, it's the only way. It's the only hope you have of remaining in a position to do anyone any good. Vote for Palpatine. Vote for the Empire. Make Mon Mothma vote for him too. Be good little Senators. Mind your manners and keep your heads down. And keep doing... all those things we can't talk about. All those things I can't know. Promise me, Bail."
"Padme, what you're talking about—what we're not talking about—it could take twenty years! Are you under suspicion? What are you going to do?"
"Don't worry about me," she said distantly. "I don't know I'll live that long."

Interesting detail, not sure if that was one that Stover put back in from an earlier/longer draft or just made up himself (he did both I think at different points) but does at least show Padme was well aware of how dangerous things were about to get, as opposed to the film where she didn't seem to twig that holy ****, Anakin's got issues right until the point he throttled her with the force, which seemed more than a little out of character I must confess.

In the novel, I think Palpatine was also playing on Anakin's insecurities regarding Padme. When he throttles her with the Force in the novel, it's not as out-of-left-field like it is in the movie.
