What is the worst excellent movie ever?

Indeed, parody title.

But I am genuinely curious. We've all had those experiences were friends and critics have praised a movie endlessly, or something is regarded as an absolute classic, but it just. . .doesn't click, when we actually sit down to watch it ourselves. What movies has this happened to you on? What do you think is causing it? Expectations too high? Band-wagon praise? Some odd cultural moment that you missed?

For me, some more recent ones include Fight Club and Kill Bill, as well as Scarface.

Napoleon Dynomite was the worst movie, period.

 

Well, basically you're asking what's the most overrated movie ever. Best terrible movie means a movie you enjoy because it's so bad. So the opposite would be a movie you hate because it's so good.

 

What!! Sideways is great!


Hmmm. I guess I would have to say any almost any horror film that people like. I don't like horror films. Of superior genres, I guess I thought Babel was kind of overrated. I did like Babel, but I didn't think it was fantastic.

 

If I am not angry, no soul will say A Night To Remember, Ghosts of the Abyss, Titanic, Titanic, or Titanic.

This is a contrapositive!

Oliver Twist, the one with Alec Guiness. Meh movie, bad adaptation and omits all the wrong things. Even the newer one was better (at least half of it).

That appears to be the ultimate love it or hate it movie.

My pick for a movie that I honestly think sucks is Peter Jacksons' King Kong. What a piece of melodramatic trash, almost comically stupid at times. I am honestly perplexed that critics considered this a good movie, much less a great one.

As for a movie that just didn't "click" with me, A History of Violence

 

Forrest Gump - look, I like the movie, I saw it before the hype started, but wow, it's not THAT good. Yeah, it's entertaining, but it's not that good.
