Blink-182 and Sum 41 should never be included in the same post as Floyd.

Weird Al Yankovic. My favorite song of his is Yoda.

I met him in a swamp down in Dagobah when it bubbles all the time like a giant carbonated soda, S O D A, Soda.

Yoda, Yo yo yo yo ya Yoda!

I'm a very eclectic person. I like just about everything, so I voted for other. However, if I had to name a favorite, I'd say either ska or nerdcore hip-hop. Some of my favorite groups are The Schematics, The Toasters, MC Frontalot, and the Living End. So HA.

Why is the rap category absent??? It's, like, one of my favorite genres after hip hop, R&B and rock. :D

Definitely rock, but only certain groups. Creed is without a doubt my favorite band. I also like Metallica, but they're the only band that can be considered heavy rock that I like. Other than Metallica I mostly like Alternative.

Although I like Dance/Techno the most, where the HELL is the RAP choice?

though i would prefer it to be called the "hip-hop" choice (seeing as how most of the hip-hop i listen to these days is DJ-based and not rapping - DJ Krush, DJ Shadow, Cut Chemist, etc...) i would have to agree that this is a curious omission. i mean, it's only one of the most dominant forms of popular music on Earth right now...

i like a lot of trance and progressive house DJs (esp. BT, Sandra Collins, Christopher Lawrence, Sasha & Digweed) but i have to say that out of all of those and more, Tiesto spinning live absolutely TEARS IT UP.

    who do you like?

    i voted for techno/dance, because.

mostly, right now, i listen to:

    - indie/alternative/punk/post-punk/artpunk/New Romantic/Britpop/shoegazer/etc rock bands - shudder to think being probably my favorite in this broad area, but i also get into the mood for some Pere Ubu, Sonic Youth, Pixies, my bloody valentine, Depeche Mode, Catherine Wheel, Bauhaus, Joy Division, 70s and 90s Bowie (the Berlin era and especially Outside), some Velvet Underground, the Smiths, etc. i also have been on a major Placebo kick for the past year or so.

    - i lovelovelove Gorillaz, who are hard to nail down between the vague category above and hip-hop.

    - singer/songwriter types: Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Suzanne Vega, ani di franco, Tori Amos, etc.

    - i used to be a big rivethead with goth tendencies. big nostalgia value for me in Nitzer Ebb and also in the old Wax Trax industrial dance sound (TKK, 242, KMFDM, Ministry, etc.) and also in 80s goth and goth-pop (Sisters, Cure, Alien Sex Fiend). i got more into darkwave, ethereal, and newer industrial (Leatherstrip, X Marks the Pedwalk, ::wumpscut::, Hocico, black tape for a blue girl, Lycia, etc.) before leaving the scene a few years ago.

    - related to the goth/industrial stuff is the experimental/noise/apocalyptic folk stuff. Einsturzende Neubauten, Current 93, Nurse With Wound, DiJ, NON, Merzbow, Throbbing Gristle, various crossovers and collaborations thereof. my favorites here would have to be Coil. i guess a lot of stuff like Aphex Twin and Godspeed, You Black Emperor! belongs here, too.

    - percussion-y stuff and world music that's not reggae (not that i have anything against reggae). i mean stuff like Dead Can Dance and Peter Gabriel's Passion album with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan here.

    - electronic dance stuff: i like pretty mainstream trance, house, etc. i would also have to say that jungle and drum-n-bass make me move my behind like nothing else on Earth.

    - hip-hop: i like a lot of late 80s/early 90s stuff (especially A Tribe Called Quest and early Cypress Hill), also some gangsta rap and, lately, the music that's been most exciting to me overall has been hip-hop turntablism. X-Ecutioners Built From Scratch seems to be a constant in my CD changer these days.

i want to get more into jazz but it's hard to know where to begin. ditto 20th-century classical.
