Ah, yes, bad notation on my part... :)

The original tracks, which are supposed to have some deterioration. Going to Amazon I see that the LSO re-recorded it in '79. Do you know if that's any good?

This is one of the few Hitchcock films I still haven't seen. [face_shhh]

    Various
    Warriors Of The Silver Screen

    With music from:
    Taras Bulba
    Antony And Cleopatra
    300 Spartans, The
    First Knight
    Rob Roy
    War Lord, The
    El Cid
    Henry V
    Prince Valiant
    Spartacus
    Last Valley, The
    Braveheart
    Thief Of Bagdad, The
    Conan The Barbarian
    Ben-Hur
    Jason And The Argonauts
    Vikings, The

I got it for the Vikings suite, it's pretty good, and I'll have fun blasting the funeral music way too loud, but it's only 18 minutes long and there's still more music from it I'd like, so I wouldn't say no to an expanded set with good sound.

As for the rest, it should be fun hearing some of this, but no doubt my wallet will take a beating when I want more. :p

That's a great set. Got it very early in my film score collecting days, before I owned almost any of the scores on there. I haven't listened to it lately -- it's at home and I'm at school, but my memories:

Taras Bulba -- a lot of fun. Taras Bulba is a fantastic score that I keep hoping gets a new full recording, because the original sounds good, but it's got old movie "tinny tiny sounding orchestra" problem and it really deserves a much bigger, more robust recording. This is the score that made me a Franz Waxman fan.

Antony And Cleopatra -- Don't remember caring for this cue one way or the other.

300 Spartans, The -- Brilliant. If the rest of the score is as good as this march (and it's been years since I've seen the movie so I don't remember if it is), it's CRIMINAL that this score hasn't gotten a full release.

First Knight -- As much as I love Goldsmith, this score never really did much for me. It's okay action music, but not great.

Rob Roy -- Sweet, celtic sounding music. One of the best things Carter Burwell's done. I've been meaning to pick up the full score.

War Lord, The -- Moross' second best score, this is awesome music. Awesome. Love it.

El Cid - Don't remember it, but it's Rosza.

Henry V -- The most important tracks on here, for me. This made me a Patrick Doyle fan, though I remember that it sounds different enough from the OST that for a while I preferred it, and it definitely took me a while to get into the dryer, crisper sound of the original recording.

Prince Valiant -- More Waxmany goodness. No complaints.

Spartacus -- Great score, but I don't remember this particular selection doing much for me on this album. Why IN THE NAME OF GOD has Varese not given us either a Deluxe Edition or a new recording of this score?

Last Valley, The -- Another very fun march. This is one of my favorite Barry Scores.

Braveheart -- A botched rendition of good Horner music.

Thief Of Bagdad, The -- Interesting to compare this to Rosza's other Sinbad score from thirty years later.

Conan The Barbarian -- I have yet to hear a re-recording of Conan the Barbarian that doesn't have me wincing.

Ben-Hur -- Like i need to discuss this score.

Jason And The Argonauts -- Great Herrmann fantasy. What can I say?

Vikings, The -- Truth to tell, this suite bores me. It's just too much of the same. :(

I think I'm going to end up getting Henry V, I know there are some other Doyle scores you really like, A Little Princess is good, right? I think I've seen the movie.

Yes, Henry V and A Little Princess are both very good. Probably the best starting places for a Patrick Doyle noob.

That is a ******* huge collection Mastadge! I doubt you're ever stuck with nothing to listen to!

    I only have four:

    -The Phantom Menace
    -Attack of the Clones
-Revenge of the Sith (downloaded when it leaked [face_blush])
    -Matrix Reloaded

Would buy more if I didn't waste all my money on DVD's and games.
