New addition:

John Debney
CutThroat Island (Expanded)

I'm really surprised to hear that nearly all the unreleased music on these CDs is very good. This is the score that Pirates of the Caribbean should have been.

I was tempted to buy Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow by Shearmur earlier today. Anyone know if it's good? I'd like to know :)

Sky Captain is a good purchase. Filled with brassy fanfares, great choral passages, and an old-fashioned adventurous sound. Basically, it's the kind of score that Williams would have written about 20 years ago, just not quite as good. I recommend it for sure, though.

Good, I'm itching for a good modern Korngold inspired score.

Patrick Doyle:

Best place to start is with Henry V or The Little Princess, then Much Ado About Nothing, and his newest, Nouvelle France is really good, too. But then, he hasn't really done much that's not good. My single favorite track of his is "Kissing in the Rain" from Great Expectations, which is very different to the rest of his scores.

Gabriel Yared:

Troy, definitely. Also, Camille Claudel is beautiful music that could hold its own in the concert hall as well as being a film score -- it's available as part of Cinéfonia's Gabriel Yared Film Music series (you should not that the sound quality on CC is not excellent, because the masters were lost so the recording is from Yared's own tapes). And his work for director Anthony Minghella -- The English Patient and The Talented Mr. Ripley. Pretty much all his work since English Patient is a rehash of that sound, unfortunately, because he did so well at it that directors have been hiring for the same sort of project. He's been pigeonholed, which is unfortunate, because he's a unique and tremendously talented and versatile composer who's getting frustrated that he's not being offered more variety in his projects.

My list is rather pathetic I'm afraid...

Howard Shore:
FOTR
TTT
ROTK

Bryan Adams + Hans Zimmer:
Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (haven't seen it, but I'm a big BA fan)

Hans Zimmer:
Crimson Tide

Chris Bouchard:

Star Wars - Revelations original motion picture soundtrack

Miscellaneous:
Rain Man
Top Gun

No Star Wars soundtracks yet, but I listen to them a lot on Winamp Music. :D

"Promo" versions of Yared's score for Troy appear on eBay every so often, but they don't appear legit - the sellers claim they are original CDs but later describe them as CD-Rs???

Latest additions:
• Troy - Gabriel Yared
• The English Patient - Gabriel Yared
• Sense and Sensibility - Patrick Doyle

Just added War of the Worlds by John Williams two days ago. 15 bucks for a new soundtrack, I couldn't believe it.

ooo! Is War of the Worlds any good? The music in the trailer sounded good, but that doesn't ususally mean anything. So did The New World. Does anybody know anything about that?
