I'm waiting to pick that up in print when it goes on sale over Christmas. Those were some of the first things I read as a wee lad. What would be great would be a collection of the stories from the He-Man magazine, including a conclusion to the never-finished time travel story from the final issue.

If you need a boom to buy...

THE LIBRARY AT MOUNT CHAR by Steve Hawkins

THE HUM AND THE SHIVER by Alex Bledsoe

    Both excellent.

A short story collection called Meeting Infinity, a magazine called "All About Space" which is a gift for my nephew, and Pathfinder RPG Bestiary 5 which is supposed to be a record breaker for official monsters in an RPG.

No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy. I own all of McCarthy's novels, but my copy of No Country was the movie tie-in version and I wanted a different one. Gonna take the old one to Half Price Books and see if I can't get more than a nickel for it.

Chancellor_Ewok - is that the novel of the upcoming film? I saw the trailer for the film when I saw TFA and it looks pretty good.

It's not a novel. The Finest Hours is based on a true story. If you enjoy a good true life sea drama in the vein of The Perfect Storm or A Night to Remember, you'll probably really enjoy The Finest Hours. The movie was a great shipwreck drama and the book is even better. I'm a little more than half way through the book and its an utterly thrilling adventure of men against the sea.

I'll keep that in mind for my next bookstore trip. BTW - I met Walter Lord (wrote A Night to Remember) at a Titanic Historical Society convention back in the 1980s in Philadelphia. Some of the survivors of the sinking were there as well.

Cool. I heard Ken Marschall speak at a THS event when I was a kid. Dad has a print of one of his paintings signed by him and the last two survivors of the Lusitania. I met John Maxtone-Graham a few years ago on a crossing on the Queen Mary 2. I have a signed copy of Liners to the Sun, along with a singed print and a copy of Age of Cunard signed at sea by the last captain of the QE2 and a navigational chart signed by the captain of the Queen Victoria, both of which are framed and hanging in my upstairs hall.

BTW, speaking of liners, were you aware that Crystal Cruises has purchased the United States and is going to attempt to restore her and put her back into service?

You might appreciate this then - menu from the THS dinner signed by Walter Lord and the survivors:

Eva Hart was a hoot - a few of us were with her in the hotel bar til 1:30 AM the next morning on the day we arrived. Nice lady. (Charlie Haas, then president of the THS, was one of the group - hence the cryptic comment he wrote).

That's pretty good. Maybe we should start an ocean liner memorabilia thread.

Picked up Robert Harris' Dictator for half price at the supermarket on Sunday. It's just out in paper here in the UK.
