I voted Stangelove, but 2001 and Clockwork Orange are a very close second.
To anyone who has not seen all the films on this poll, rent them now; they are all great movies.

2001 is a masterpiece. But my favorite Kubrick film overall is probably a little film he made in 1956 called THE KILLING; it's one of the best examples of film noir and it's the first film that tells the story out of sequence in the manner of PULP FICTION.

I just saw Spartacus on TCM. It has its flaws, but overall it is a very entertaining epic with some great performances (particularly those by Kirk Douglas and Laurence Olivier) and some classic scenes (like the slave revolt scene and the tension-filled gladiator scene between Spartacus and his fellow slave).

    1 - 2001 (which, dare I say it, I prefer to SW)
    2 - Paths of Glory
    3 - The Shining

Though I've not seen Barry, Spartacus or Eyes yet.

A Clockwork Orange has an energy seldom seen in other movie. But I haven't seen Dr Strangelove yet, though I am not a great comedy fan.

It's probably a tie for first place between Spartacus and Dr Strangelove. Spartacus is a great movie about a great hero, well acted, well directed, and utterly inspirational. Anyone who isn't moved during the scene when the captured prisoners stand one by one, and say I'M SPARTACUS, probably hasn't a heart.
Dr Strangelove, is also a brilliant movie, an anti-war film that's exceedingly funny to boot, George C Scott and Peter Sellers are both fantastic in this film.

Quite recently I got to see 2001: A Space Oddysey on the big screen, and before I just thought it was a very pretentious, anti audience film, now it's probably one of my favourite films so far. It's simply wonderful on the big screen, and I don't think seeing it on a crappy television that I saw it on the first time does it any justice at all. It's still pretentious, but it respects the intelligence of it's audience, and lets them go to their own conclusions, which is something very rare in films these days.

Wow, I voted on this a while back, but didn't post anything. I like Dr. Strangelove a lot. Peter Sellers is terrific. I'm not generally a fan of the horror/suspense genre, but The Shining is probably the best I have seen of its kind. I appreciate A Clockwork Orange, but it's just not akin to my general film tastes.

I picked 2001: A Space Odyssey. This is great film-making! Probably the least amount of dialogue of any feature film since "talkies" became the norm. And Hal 9000 -- what a great charater!

    but it 's great.
I chose the clock. but thats because you have to chose. I really cant choose. they are all such wonderful examples of great cinama.
