Though most of the films on the list are classics, my favorite is Dr. Strangelove, closely followed by 2001 and Clockwork.

Dr.Strangelove, The Shining, Clock Work Orange, 2001, and Full Metal Jacket, are five of my favorite films of all times Dr. Strangelove is probably my favorite. It was so different then anything I'd ever seen. Kubick was a genius.

Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb

But I think that the first half of Full Metal Jacket is superb and worth mentioning.

These are the ones I've seen, in order of preference

    1) A Clockwork Orange - This may have different meaning to those old enough to remember when it came out. I think it is an acomplishment that a movie can use "retro-futuristic" (a contradiction, of course) furniture and create the feel that it is set in the future.
It is quite interesting that our "hero" seems totally evil at the start, but in the second half you can sympathise with him when you see the hypocricy of his past victims, and his society. That's probably more a credit to Kubrick than anything.

    2) Full Metal Jacket - Great movie. the comment bobachris12 made about the jelly donut was priceless. Who'd have thought a donut could cause such dire consequences.

    3) Lolita - I was surprised how repressed this movie is. That's not the image my generation gets from the name Lolita [face_laugh]. I get the feeling a lot of the people in this thread are older than me (I'm 19).

    4) Dr Strangelove - I need to see this again before I can really assess it, I didn't see the whole thing.

Dr. Strangelove is easily the best comedy ever put on the big screen. Just very well done, although I do prefer George Scott and Slim Picken's performances to Peter Sellers. The Shining is a close second, but the book is still better!
