The Marx Brothers are, in my opinion, one of the most important comedy acts of the 20th century, as so many comedians were influenced by them. While none of their films are great cinematic achievements, their wit is still sharp today, and some of their jokes are rude even by today's standards, even though most of their films are almost seventy years old now! The other films I didn't included are :-

    The Big Store
    Room Services
    A Night in Casablanca
    Love Happy

    Anyway, please do vote! :D

Duck Soup. One of the funniest movies ever.

"He may look like an idiot, and talk like an idiot, but don't let that fool you. He really is idiot."

"I can see you in the kitchen bending over a hot stove, and I can't see the stove."

Rufus T. Firefly: Not that I care, but where is your husband?
    Mrs. Teasdale: Why, he's dead.
Rufus T. Firefly: I bet he's just using that as an excuse.
Mrs. Teasdale: I was with him to the very end.
Rufus T. Firefly: No wonder he passed away.
Mrs. Teasdale: I held him in my arms and kissed him.
Rufus T. Firefly: Oh, I see, then it was murder. Will you marry me? Did he leave you any money? Answer the second question first.

"Maybe you can suggest something. As a matter of fact, you do suggest something. You suggest a baboon. I'm sorry I said that; it isn't fair to the other baboons."

"Well, that covers a lot of ground. Say, you cover a lot of ground yourself. You better beat it -- I hear they're going to tear you down and put up an office building where you're standing. You can leave in a taxi. If you can't get a taxi, you can leave in a huff. If that's too soon, you can leave in a minute and a huff. You know, you haven't stopped talking since I came here? You must have been vaccinated with a phonograph needle."

    "That's the viaduct."

    "Why a duck?"

    "I don't know 'why a duck?', I'm a stranger here myself. All I know is that's a viaduct."

The Coconuts...Best Marx Bros. Movie Ever!

I saw Cocoanuts last year, and even though it's very static and slow moving, it's still wonderfully funny! I have that entire 'Why a duck?' exchnage on my computer. It's just halirious. And I can't spell.

I actually think it's very hard to chose my favourite Marx Brothers films, as they all have so much going for them. Probably my least favourite is The Big Store, as it has hardly any funny bits in it at all, and they all, with the exception of Harpo, seem as if they'd rather be somewhere else. Also, Love Happy, the last film they made together, is rather depressing, as its sad to see them all so old looking, but having said that, there are still some great moments in it, especially when Groucho meets Marilyn Monroe. I think the exchange between them goes something like this.

Marilyn Monroe: Some men are following me!

Groucho: Really? I can't understand why.

Well, it's funnier in the film! Anyway, keep the votes coming. :D

Duck soup. It's been far too long since I have seen any of those later films so I can't remember those exactly.

I'm surprised nobody has voted for Animal Crackers yet. That's got some of their best jokes in it!

Animal Cracker is fantastic too but since I had to name just one favourite I chose Duck Soup.

Spaulding: What do you fellas get an hour?
Ravelli: For playing, we get-a ten dollars an hour.
Spaulding: I see. What do you get for not playing?
    Ravelli: Twelve dollars an hour.
Spaulding: Well, clip me off a piece of that.
Ravelli: Now for rehearsing, we make special rate. That's-a fifteen dollars an hour...That's-a for rehearsing.
Spaulding: And what do you get for not rehearsing?
Ravelli: You couldn't afford it. You see, if we don't rehearse, we a-don't play, and if we don't play (he snaps his finger) - that runs into money.
Spaulding: How much would you want to run into an open manhole?
Ravelli: Just-a the cover charge! Ha, ha, ha.
Spaulding: Well, drop in some time.
    Ravelli: Sewer.
Spaulding: Well, we cleaned that up pretty well.
Ravelli: Well, let's see how-a we stand.
    Spaulding: Flat-footed.
Ravelli: Yesterday, we didn't come. (To Mrs. Rittenhouse) You remember, yesterday we didn't come?
    Spaulding: Oh, I remember.
Ravelli: Yes, that's three hundred dollars.
Spaulding: Yesterday, you didn't come, that's three hundred dollars?
    Ravelli: Yes, three hundred dollars.
Spaulding: Well, that's reasonable. I can see that alright.
Ravelli: Now today, we did come. That's-a (pause)..
Spaulding: That's a hundred you owe us.
Ravelli: Hey, I bet I'm gonna lose on the deal. Tomorrow we leave. That's worth about (pause)..
    Spaulding: A million dollars.
Ravelli: Yeah, that's alright for me, but I've got a partner.

Duck Soup is definitely the best one. But the real question to ask is WHO is your fav marx Brother? now that'd be tough.

Harpo is my favourite Marx. After all he was born on same day than I. But of course I love all the others too (except that I don't know anything about Gummo)

    [image=http://www.marx-brothers.org/graphics/marx5.gif]

Don't they just look weird in real life (especially Groucho without moustache)?

"But the real question to ask is WHO is your fav marx Brother? now that'd be tough."

Gosh, that is tough :(. The problem is that there isn't much written about Gummo, so it's hard to know what he was like when he was part of the act, and Zeppo was never allowed to be funny in the films, so it's hard to judge those two. But probably my favourite are Harpo and Groucho. Chico's great, but I never got the feeling he was trying as hard as the other two. And I once read somewhere that there were two and a half geniuses in the Marx Brothers. I think that's very true. :D

A dead heat between "Horse Feathers" (the one set in a college) and "Duck Soup" (the one set in Freedonia).

I think Duck Soup is probably the best, but my favorite will always be A Night at the Opera.
