Yeah, that word count is absolutely astounding. Sanderson wrote as much in one year as are in any three Star Wars novels published last year together. And when you're looking at an 800,000-word manuscript, splitting it into three volumes makes sense. That's on par with putting books 4 and 5 and half of 6 together... no way you could publish that. Not to mention that the publisher would never be able to make their money back even if they could find a way to put it out there in a single volume.

Gathering Storm is due out later this month! :)

(unless its been delayed, and if so, I haven't seen anything on that yet - hopefully there isn't anything)

I started this series in June, and am on book 9 right now. It really is an amazing series and I'm glad it's being continued.

Definitely getting closer, it feels almost unreal. And for the first time in over a decade, I'm looking forward to a Wheel of Time novel. Brandon Sanderson is one of my favorite authors, advance reviews have generally been kind, and the big question as I see it is going to be whether Sanderson or Jordan writes Jordan's series better.

I had pretty much forgotten about this series, but I'm glad the next installment is coming soon.

Wow. Just finished it. Good book all around, great final fight scene. And, much to my surprise, Mat finally escapes Ebou Dar! :p

    Eventually :p

I haven't read Sanderson, but given that Jordan's one of my favorite authors, I have a hard time seeing Sanderson topping him, at least for me. Doesn't mean I'm not really looking forward to the book or won't enjoy it, though.

Knowing me, I won't be able to tell 8-} I do think the slow pace of the middle books will be gone, though - if there was enough important material to make one book into three, I'm sure it'll be good material.

Really, the only WOT books that I could consider "bad" are 7, 8 and 10.

Finished KoD yesterday and loved it. Since New Spring is so short, I decided to just go ahead and read it before The Gathering Storm comes out. So far it's pretty awesome, with Lan having a main role and more Malkieri culture, and even Elyas has a mention so far.

Moiraine and Siuan are also being awesome. I'm at the part where they and the other Accepted have been assigned to find all the children born in the past few days. They're like, "We're awesome! We're going to find the Dragon Reborn! We're gonna be kicking butt and taking names!" except so far, they're just taking names. :p

They do lots of taking names in that book :p

I hope my pre-order of Gathering Storm doesn't take too long to arrive [face_worried]

    Very true :D

Aaaand I just realized after I logged off that the 27th is in fact Tuesday, not Thursday 8-} But I'm on the waiting list at the library, so depending on how many copies they get in, it could be a while.

I am kicking myself in the ass right now because I am still only on ACoS. Altough I am mostly through with it now. I will buy the book on release day and hold off on reading it until I reread KoD. I should have started rereading the series way earlier then I did. The kids make it hard to read fast so needless to say as of next tues. I won't read this thread till I finish TGS in about 2 mth. :(
