I could only be considered “for” her in the fall of 2016 when she adopted some of Sanders’ policies. I discovered Sanders in 2008 (the same year I campaigned for Obama against Clinton in the primary), when Thom Hartmann used to have him on his show for an hour every Friday, and have been pro-Sanders since then, was thrilled when he ran for President and seemed to be a serious contender in 2016.

I was really over hearing about how Clinton “had to” use pragmatism both to be successful in politics as a woman (along with the argument that second-wave feminists were more “pragmatic” than third-wave feminists—I call bull**** on that, and Clinton was pro-Goldwater at the time of second-wave feminism anyway) and to get anything done in DC.

But...given the same choices on the North Carolina ballot in November 2016, I would vote for again. The US system is unfortunately not set up to allow for the range of choices that Ender listed, with the possible exception of California, which manages to get more candidates on its ballot.

The person who has loudly and publicly advocated for the literal shotgun wedding of fists and fascists faces will not let that happen.

Social democracy for all - capitalism and a safety net! lol @ people who believe socialism won't fail! etc

I think Ramza should be banned for the use of "zestier" alone.

I personally saw it less as her selling out Sanders and more of her believing it was the best move to defeat Trump. I mean she's fought the corporates and Trump for years, so I could see her making the assumption that fighting from Clinton's side would succeed. Too bad Clinton flushed her entire campaign down the toilet and then blamed everyone but herself. Still, I think that choice will haunt Warren if she tries to run in '20. I'm personally hoping for a Sanders/Turner ticket.

In retrospect, Sanders' propositions aggregated to a yearly cost neighbouring half the GDP of Italy. Or twice the increase in deficit the current administration's policies will result in by 2020, all things remaining standing.

That's what I find odd about this thread as an endeavor. There's not really any underlying substance here, but instead just an intense fixation on anxieties about how others are having some sort of imagined social benefit.

Ultimately, does it matter very deeply? A discussion based around people's policy views might yield interesting results about their themselves or the issues in question. Instead, we've restricted ourselves to a bunch of pointless bickering about who was and was not "really" faithful to some or another cause that now only exists historically. It's a tact that reinforces the same sort of social self-consciousness it purports to be concerned about.

His propositions are no different than the policies already in place in actual first-world democracies. If they would cost too much, then maybe the US needs to cut spending in areas where other first-world democracies do not spend or spend much less.

Like invading/bombing small countries in the name of “American corporate interests.”

Sanders' propositions did include some things in line with policies in actual first-world democracies, but also included a couple of things which were very expensive and weren't that I remember (it was "fair play", demagoguery is mandatory in all first-world democracies :p ).

The USA don't particularly need to cut spending, though. They have ample opportunities for taxation and financing of policies which exist in about every other first-world democracy.

omg yes actually taxing Americans a fair amount would help. Nothing is more infuriating than an undertaxed people bitching about how much tax they pay.
