Put me in the Vegas camp.
I am from Europe (UK), and I have to say CIV in Europe is a lame and infeasible idea. The Idea of SW celebrations, is for them to be the biggest SW conventions in the world. The biggest and most loyal fan base resides in the US. It would therefore be a disaster to have CIV, off US soil. Just follow basic market principles, and place the convention in the country with the most loyal and largest fan base, The US. Plus, in comparison to European countries that could hold a convention like CIV, the US is comparatively cheaper, and English speaking (like the majority of the fans).

I would prefer more SW conventions in Europe just not the big celebrations.

    INDY.

You'd be insane to hold it anywhere else. The city has the largest convention center in the country and has the best hotel set up and STILL is too small for this Con.

To go anywhere else would just be rediculous.

Indy has been great for the last two Celebrations. I'd be happy to see it there again.

If not Indy, Vegas or St. Louis would seem to be good places.

Atlanta would be a great place. Dragon-Con has always run well there, plus there's a lot of good hotels and even if you have to get a room a little further out you can go practically anywhere in town on the MARTA rail easily.

Have never been there but I also heard that Houston or Dallas would make great cities to have a Celebration at.

Someone's already mentioned Orlando, how about the convention facilities at Disney World? It would be the mother of all Star Wars Weekends! :D

I wouldn't mind them keeping C4 at Indy, but they need to figure out better crowd flow in the building. Otherwise, I think that Dallas/Ft. Worth could be a great spot. We are fairly central, and our airport is a main hub for many connection flights from both coasts. Downtown Fort Worth is a very nice city, comparable to Indy. Lots of bars and entertainment. The convention center just went through a massive overhaul, you can check it out here.

    http://www.fortworth.com/02meetplan/0202conveventfac/020201convcenter/020201convcenter.shtml

    So there's my vote.

Why not Richmond, Virginia? Greater Richmond Convention Center 700,000 square feet total, more than double compared to the Indianapolis convention center (which has 308,700). Not the cleanest town, but it has a larger convention center.

I dont think that holding it on a coast is a good idea, like many people said, if you have it on one coast the other suffers. For me from Denver driving 17 hours to Indi was to bad, but I dont think I can do it again, and forget about flying cause Indi is one of the most expensive airports to fly into. The best choices are:

    1. Las Vegas - lots of hotels and cheap to fly into
    2. Denver - new convention center that is able to host the celebration
    3. Salt Lake City - still is set up from the recent 2002 Olympics
    4. Dallas - good facilities

I dont believe that Indi would be a good idea because they are planning on taking the convention center down and rebuilinding another which wont be finished until 2008 - one year to late.

spooky-kid they should have Celebration 4 at Chapel Hill, they'd blend in so well nobody would notice! Sorta like a bigger version of Franklin Street on Halloween :p

Dunno about Winston, but Greensboro is only really good for one thing that draws large crowds: college basketball tournaments at the Colisseum.

I wouldn't mind Celebration 4 being in one of the more "quirky" major cities, like New Orleans and Savannah.

I guess, as I have heard different arguements for different places, I would have to say keep it in Indy, but move it into May, and have someone other than GenCon run it! As many of us now know Indy, that is a further reason to keep it there.

Uilmuteiz is correct-- I don't know of another convention center that is physically connected to seven different hotels and 12 minutes from the airport.

The San Diego Convention Center is:
physically adjacent to two or three hotels, across the street from a few more, and has many others within a short walk. Plus it's right on the harbor, across the street from the new ballpark, and the restaurant-heavy Gaslamp Quarter and on the Trolley line (Two trolley stations cover the convention center). The airport is right next to downtown.. no need to even get on the freeway.

Plus it is very huge -- Last year's Comic-Con had more than 90,000 attendees.

Why stand in line in the rain in indy when you can stand in line in the sun of southern california? while you're here you can stop by the San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Old Town, Lego Land, the beaches, Balboa Park, the Pacific fleet, the lighthouse, Little Italy, Tijuana, the Wild Animal Park, La Jolla, the casinos and more!

that being said, i stand by my earlier comments against san diego: not driving distance for enough fans, slightly higher costs for hotels/airfare, we already have the huge, well-organized comic-con every year.

and yes, the water in indy sucks... i grew up on southern california tap water, which isn't great but the tap water in indy was gross. i much preferred the water in chicago!

Hard water. Welcome to the midwest! Chicago can drink the lake, but around here, it comes outta the ground.

My first choice would have to be Denver, just because of the wonderful weather we had for C1. <Just Kidding>

I like the Vegas idea, but if Gencon didn't run it I would consider Indy again.

    Just my $.02

As a City I think Indy was perfect. Plenty of hotels and places to eat very close. But IMO this event absolutely pushed the con center to it's limit.

The big halls, like Sagamore and the G hall were plenty big, but the 500 ballroom and the behind the scenes room were much too small.

The hall where the vendors were was pretty tight, could have been bigger. The Fan Fair hall had plenty of space.

The Hall where the celebration party and opening ceremony was held, was actually waaaay too crowded at the cel @ cel party. Should have been twice as big.

The hallways and concourse areas where too small and narrow. I mean the most popular thing to do between waiting in lines was to just wander and take pics and it was too easy for the halls to get clogged by picture takers.

SW in 30 min. room was too small.

I think that the Lucas presentation should have been piped to EVERY screen in the facility and any con center in the future should have that ability, at a moments notice.

So assuming another celebration would be just as large, I think a larger hall would benefit us all. I like the Vegas idea or anywhere with a large, full featured convention center.

Those of you voting for Dallas...the Convention center is too small!!! they had to split up Wizard World last november.

Now if you go a little further south to San Antonio, TX. now you are talkin' This city is built for conventions. Before i was a freelance illustrator I worked downtown....there were regularly conventions of 50-150,000 people. There are a gazillion hotels all with in a short walk form the brand spankin new convention center, a Marriot convention center hotel that could more than accomodate with its very large reception halls, and not to mention the dome. Conventions are the business here!! If they had it in April....man the weather is fantastic!!! Oh and I almost forgot the Food!!!!

    Convention center specs:
Our newly-expanded 1.3 million square foot convention center is enhancing our reputation as a premier meeting destination. Because we can offer you greater flexibility and more options than ever before.

Just take a look at the numbers. There's over 440,000 gross square feet, which almost doubles our existing contiguous exhibit space, which has doubled the building footprint from 540,000 gross square feet to more than 1.3 million gross square feet.

Want to know what other impressive stuff we've added at the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center? Well, you'll definitely like the new 40,000 square foot ballroom - which gives us three hotel-quality ballrooms/banquet halls. Also there's 113,000 square feet of meeting room space, with optimum flexibility of up to 59 room divisions. Plus, we've got a 2,521 seat Theatre for the performing arts.

I like Indy. The convention centre is nice, clean, and easy to get to. I like the fact that it is located within walking distance of shops, restaurants, hotels, bars, the zoo, museums and other attractions. Not to mention a decent grocery store. I feel safe walking around downtown Indy at night so that is another bonus for me and have I was treated well by the locals who were for the most party very pleasant.

I have attended both CII and CIII and except for a few bugs to be ironed out in the system then Indy is okay by me.

As for the weather, whatever, I've been through worse - pack a sweater and a brolly! :)

    info

Thats the info from the Las Vegas Convention center.

Its 3.2 million square feet with access to about 100k hotel rooms.

Indy doesnt come close. plus Vegas has slightly better weather in May or even April than Indy.

LVCC has the space and the storage for more convention goers than Indy does.

Somewhere warmer. I know its the season, but I froze my butt off. My vote is for Vegas...cheap flights, cheap hotels, lots to do.

    Second choice would be Denver.
