So completely altering the order and causal chain of historic events is less objectionable than saying "this species actually lives longer than we thought"? LOL! "Smashing into walls for no good reason other than to satisfy some whim of a story" is pretty much the definition of POD. ROT was much less offensive from a continuity standpoint, but it still managed to completely steamroll over 50% of the only two sources it had to take into account.
