So when you think of the South, what state represents it the most? Like which would be considered the most Southern? I don't count the plain states as though similar culture, have their own thing.

Top 5 I'd argue are Texas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Alabama.

Tennessee has the home of country music, always associated with the South. Texas is almost synonymous with the word South. Alabama though, has a good case to be considered the most. Its the butt of everyone's jokes mostly in the South. Kentucky because of the horses and such.. Mississippi could be considered just by its name alone.

Arguments could be made about Virginia or Georgia. But not a strong enough case close to the others.

Least is Florida to me. Louisiana is its own thing and too much of a French influence but still could be argued.

    What say you?

Well, I’m no cartographer, but looking at a map, I’d say… Florida

Culturally; I'll go Mississippi. I think of Tennessee as more reflective of Appalachia than the South.

The answer to this question has changed a lot ever since they decided Pluto was no longer a state.

From my neck of the woods, Texas would be the popular cliché, but not because it's a good cliché for the states from the former CSA. Nobody here really cares about the South per se.

Yeah, I think it's something like Hawaii is the most Southern state, and Alaska is most North, East, and West.

Texas and Tennessee simply because they have no state tax implications when it comes to withdrawing money from a 401k. That is, you have to be a resident, i.e. your address on file has to indicate you live in either of those states, when you are doing a withdrawal from your retirement plan.

Still, don't take money out of your plan until you're retirement age.

Alabama, I mean they came this close to voting Roy Moore as a Senator (if you don't know who he is, look him up, I don't have the stomach to describe him)

Historically, the answer was South Carolina; first state to secede for the Civil War, the dudes who actually opened fire for the Civil War first, Strom Thurmond and John C. Calhoun’s stomping grounds, and before the Civil War, they had a requirement that all state representatives had to own 10 slaves.

Demographics and development have changed that a bit.

I went with Alabama. To me a big cultural signature of the South is obsession with college football.

I voted for North Carolina, because it’s the the northern most of the options, and so it’s just fooling everyone, pretending to be northern and pretending to be southern at the same time

    but really it’s just southern

In your opinion @AutumnLight91, what does it mean to be "Southern"? Country music? Sweat Tea? Pick up trucks? Racist?

Well, there's nothing about "Southern culture" that makes it intrinsically evil. Just like there was nothing that made German or Japanese culture intrinsically evil. It's just that they've chosen to twist and pervert their culture to use as a political weapon.
