e.g. Star Wars because it can't get a movie out the door, its Disney+ content is mostly crap, and I care about it the most Marvel, because 2023 was a bleak year, its Disney+ content is mostly crap, and I care about it the most DC, because holy crap it's a train wreck, and yet for whatever the reason I care about it the most Indiana Jones because Ford's victory lap with the franchise was among the biggest flops of the year and probably delayed the inevitable reboot by at least a decade if not longer Mission Impossible because Tom Cruise seems upset Pixar because everyone else is making better Pixar movies than Pixar Disney "live action" remakes of popular animated features because why is this even happening Something else?
Tron, because they had the perfect setup for a compelling followup to Tron: Legacy with Cillian Murphy of all people, and instead they're floundering around with...a Jared Leto project.
Indiana Jones protected its integrity by not making enough money for further exploitation Harry Potter i hope.
Disney will circle back to Indiana Jones eventually. It's what they do. Terminator is one of the most incorrectly optimistic of all franchises. It went south as soon as Cameron stopped directing and yet they made four post Cameron Terminators, each worse than the last.
Mad Max because only George Miller can direct a Mad Max movie and he's old enough to be a presidential candidate
I’d really like to put “miscast Chris Pratt, half heartedly voices beloved cartoon character.” to the list, but the Mario bit made a good chunk of money against all odds so I guess we’ll have to see how the Garfield movie does.
speaking of Pratt, what's going on with the Jurassic World franchise? It's hard to say that one's in trouble, but it is really bad.
The Bond franchise is always teetering on the edge of disaster, but this last film actually threw in ideas from the spectacularly clueless 1967 Casino Royale only playing them dead straight. They might as well of ended with ‘it was only a dream’.
I wouldn’t say that puts the franchise in jeopardy. The quality of each actors bond films has trended to decline (excepting George and Tim). And the next actor stepping in often revitalized the franchise
The "who will be the next Bond" speculation is always a great time. Will they pick a woman or a person of color and cause the collapse of Western Civilization?
If we're strictly talking movies, Trek hasn't had a good one in decades. But at least their TV series are hit or miss.
I think they should merge the troubled Jurassic Park and Bond franchises to create Sexist Misogynist Dinosaur, about a velociraptor working for the British government having a wonderful time.
Good news, Alien: Romulus is going to reboot that troubled franchise and bring it back to the heights of John Cameron's Aliens. The name alone guarantees that it will be an instant classic and global blockbuster. My mistake it will be a Hulu streaming original.
Lower Decks is the entire justification for Trek. Everything else only exists as fuel for Lower Decks.
If the genuine policy by the Trek overlords was to deliberately make everything else meh or terrible just so Lower Decks could make fun of it, I'd be impressed. Unfortunately, like most franchises, it's overseen by people who don't care enough to do it properly and just want to milk the brand name. We live in hope that James Gunn will finally take DC in the direction it needs to go
