ST Which mysteries will stay unanswered in IX?

We never got any confirmation.

 

Looking at this list (and thinking on all the other red herrings) I wonder if Disney is being deliberately obtuse in order to foster the need for fans and authors to create a new EU industry for exposition purposes they can make money from.

 

Or, so that there is plenty of background material so that the world they are creating can be expanded upon.
Just like it was, and loved, in the other trilogies.

It's an important part of Star Wars. Unanswered questions. Hints at things offscreen.
It's a good thing.

 

We also need to know if the porgs will now invade other worlds thanks to them going on the ship.

 

A lot of the topics brought up here really don't need an explanation. In fact, the story is better without Star Trek-ish exposition all over the place that bogs down everything to the point of wonder less nothing.

The vast majority is fine to reserve for literature -- how Maz acquired the Skywalker Blade, Rey's powers, the origins of the FO, etc.

Looking back, we could pick apart the mysteries of the OT at its conclusion even more than the ST at the end of the second film.

There are a few things that do need some further explanation. I strongly think the ST's creators actually owe it to us to fill in more of Ben's backstory and his relationship with Snoke. It doesn't need to be an epic retelling of Snoke's story, but it reeks of laziness or incompetence to just drop it because it signals to everyone they just weren't smart enough to tell a respectable story.

And that's something that can be done effectively in IX with a brief flashback scene....Kylo narrating to Rey as their relationship grows. It wouldn't even take 60 seconds. That's it. Providing that would strengthen the broader story and demonstrate some creative competence.

Other than that, a lot of this stuff is par for the Star Wars course.

 

How many people escaped to the Falcon at the end, and what are all their names?

 

Was Luke actually on Ahch-To? Was that also an illusion? Are Luke and Snoke alive in the Unknown Regions?

 

I’m pretty sure that illusions of illusions aren’t possible, even through the Force, but I guess that could also be true. However, if he wasn’t on Ahch-To, why did he fall and disappear?

 

To show the caretakers that he wasn't really there. His clothing disappeared later, like Han's dice. It wasn't "an illusion of an illusion", but the primary illusion, and on Crait he appeared as the secondary illusion. Multiple illusions.
The first line of Episode IX's crawl:
Luke Skywalker has vanished again.
And Episode X:
Luke Skywalker keeps vanishing.
Episode XI:
Luke the Magnificent has done it again.

 

I'm betting we won't find out who the mole was in the Resistance that allowed the FO to track them through light speed though it would be cool if we did.

 

Depends what you mean by "explanation." A lot of them there was more than enough time to answer them in the Star Wars broadstrokes way through characters, storytelling situations and some dialogue here or there and in some cases in some basic expository scenes.

Except the way they've done it has bogged the story down because nothing seems to mean anything. They'll say something one place then the next they'll change it. There is no development only statements.

Except we knew even then we were watching the second half of the story. Lucas purposely went lighter on the overall context because he could. There actually was quite a lot given and in the moment we weren't being nudged to ask why characters were doing what they were.

For the side material yes. Not for the major issues of Rey and Ren, Snoke and Luke. There isn't going to be any ST prequel movies.

 

What happened to Mon Mothma?

 

Will we learn that Luke came up with the idea to project his image across the galaxy after listening to the Guns-N-Roses album "Use Your Illusion"? Because Luke totally used his illusion! He used it!

 

I think this is a pretty safe bet. We will not learn what Snoke was as a person.

You mean the illusion of his X-wing. Same goes for his door. It wasn't Chewie who pushed it across the hut.... that was all Luke (the Luke that was not in the hut).

 

Good point @The Regular Mustache. I've always suspected Finn has a chip imbedded in his body somewhere. He may or may not be aware of it. It may further explain why he was trying to abandon ship when Rose caught him.

 

Do you really want this explained in a movie? It's 30+ years after ROTJ she's either retired or dead. It's understood that she would no longer be involved at this point in the story.
