The music from The Empire Strikes Back is truly, truly magical. It does the incredible job of telling a story, stretching the imagination and makes you yearn to learn even more about the force and the Star Wars universe.

 

A New Hope. It's a masterpiece. Probably the greatest film score ever written.

Recently I picked up the special edition two disc soundtrack of the Empire strikes back. If you’ve never heard it you should give it a listen. A lot of the music ended up being used in the game shadows of the empire. The stuff that didn’t end up in the movie is truly amazing. You can’t say that about many composers especially these days.

 

Battle of the Heroes is so sad and beautiful.

 

Revenge of the Sith for life! When I listen to Battle of Heroes I can’t help but get chills, when I listen to the Order 66 theme I can’t help but get depressed, when I listen to Anakin’s Dark Deeds I can’t help but be distressed, When I listen to Padme’s funeral theme, I can’t help but cry. I think it’s the movie with the best soundtrack in the whole Saga, if not the whole history of cinema. I also like the score from Attack of the Clones. I think Across the Stars is one of the best soundtracks ever composed in human history, and considering how the love story between Anakin and Padme ended, every time I listen to it I can’t help but get depressed and want to die.

 

Yes I remember a lot of music from the N64 game was unused music from the soundtrack. Still my favorite soundtrack ever, so rich and varied. It's hard to describe what it was like hearing the Imperial March in the theater the first time.

 

If you don't have them, the other two OTSE scores are definitely worth finding too. Fantastic sets.

Honorable Theme Mentions:
Across the Stars from AOTC. Just an epic tragic theme considering everything- with some light moments in it. I LOVE it so much!
Hope from RO. Although not a saga score, but nevertheless- it is the theme with Vaders epic hallway scene leading to Leia.

 

I fell in love with the music at 8 years old when ANH came out. I never actually got the album myself but my friend had it. then, when I was in college I discovered the music again and recorded someone's ANH album on cassette. I spent the next few years looking for the cassettes for ESB and ROTJ at stores (this was late 80's early 90's). I found them and actually lost them on the same day in the summer of 1989 and was bummed (left them at the movie theater). Finally found them again in 1992 but I was temporarily "over" SW music by then. I was disappointed with the ROTJ set.

Then the Special Editions came out and I was in hog heaven! I found the SE ANH set and then realized that the other 2 would come out. I actually went to Best Buy early in the morning on the day of the ROTJ release. I was in AWE at all the music available that I didn't have before.

 

1. ESB: Has a lot of great themes reused from A New Hope, but then tons of its own new stuff. Yoda's Theme, Imperial March, Han Solo and the Princess, Lando's Palace, etc. It's such a masterful score from my favorite SW movie.
2. ANH: The one that started it all. So many iconic themes like the Main theme, Force theme, Cantina Band, Leia's Theme, and TIE Fighter Attack
3. ROTS: It was between this and ROTJ. While I vastly prefer ROTJ as a film, ROTS has an amazing score that is a shade better than ROTJ. Battle of the Heroes, Immolation, Anakin's Dark Deeds, Padme's Ruminations, Grievous Theme, and themes introduced in earlier prequels like the Funeral Theme, Escape from Naboo, Duel of the Fates, and Across the Stars (brief).
I know it's not the point of the thread, but I'll briefly rank the scores rest of the Skywalker Saga.
4. ROTJ 5. TPM 6. TFA 7. AOTC 8. TLJ
9. ROS: Probably the only score that's just pretty good and not great (or even amazing like my favorites). There's some incredible stuff in here, but the score is the least memorable of the whole saga.
