No matter what anyone thinks of Episode 1, there is NOTHING that comes close to the hype in 1999 as that will never be duplicated again. I still remember Entertainment Tonight did a countdown everyday for the final 3 months: 42 days til Episode 1! The people going to the theaters in Nov 1998 to see the Trailer and then walking out was another thing that just won't happen again. It was a crazy time to be a fan and you couldn't help but get caught up in it.

The Force Awakens, absolutely. After being disappointed with the Prequel Trilogy and after watching amazing trailer after amazing trailer for TFA, plus the return of my childhood heroes, Luke, Han and Leia, and the excitement for the new characters... I could not wait for December 18, 2015 to come.

The Phantom Menace by a landslide.

A brand new SW film from GL! Wowsers.

And I loved every minute of it on my first viewing. Saw it 4 or 5 times in theaters.

And I remember seeing the characters faces on soda cups and cans and seeing the commercials on tv and rewatching my OT VHS tapes and all that.

    So. Much. Fun.

    Kinda miss those days, tbh.
    And GL, especially. [face_peace]

TPM. Unfortunately the movie didn't like up to the hype, IMO.

TPM. This isn't a matter of which one is better or not for me. It's just that there's something more exciting about anticipating a new Star Wars movie at 9 years old compared to TFA, where I was 25 when it came out. I am just more critical and sometimes prepared for disappointment much more so now than I was back in 1999.

TFA. Sadly was not into SW at the time of TPM so no experience of it.

TPM much more so. It was an absolute phenomenon during the lead-up.

See the thing about me is that since I have loved all 9 Star Wars films so far I feel like it is hard for them to let me down.

That's a great position to be in! I wish I loved all of them... Then again there's not a franchise I can think of where I love all the films [face_thinking]

I love LOTR's but hate The Hobbit films... I love the Indiana Jones Trilogy but hate KOTCS... etc etc

The only thing I regret is not seeing Phantom Menace when it came out...

But anyway, I say that the buildup for TPM was far grander than it was for TFA...
