    Who do you think the titular Last Jedi from the Last Jedi movie is meant to be? I always assumed it was meant to be Luke since he is portrayed as this lone Jedi living the remainder of his life out in isolation and as the only Jedi that survived Kylo's slaughter. This morning, however, I got to thinking that maybe the title was meant to apply to Rey. I also think it was possible the title was meant to apply to both of them. So, do you think of the Last Jedi as Luke, as Rey, as both of them, or neither of them? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

    I do believe that she will become a full-fledged Jedi in TROS. I'm just wondering if she will become the last one (if the Jedi Order must end for some reason related to balancing the Force) or if she'll end up training future Jedi in which case neither Rey nor Luke will turn out to be the last of the Jedi. I do think that the most natural interpretation for whom The Last Jedi title refers to is Luke. So much so that it only occurred to me this morning that maybe other people believed it referred to Rey.

    I don't think it's meant to be interpreted as the last Jedi in the sense that they are meant to be the final Jedi, but rather the last remaining Jedi at this time (ala Yoda's quote to Luke).

    Who *was* the last Jedi is probably the right question. It was Luke, now it will be Rey, and I don't think she'll be the last.

    Is Mace alive in canon? I'd like it, but I feel like the retconning to explain his survival then absence through all of the OT era would be pretty hard to pull off convincingly.

    He's alive in my head canon ... and Samuel L. Jackson has pushed hard for it to happen. I mean... it's not official. But I want to believe... and have a personal fan fiction written XD

    And he has totally been frozen in carbonite from some time about 10 years before A New Hope...

    Considering how it's almost impossible to take TLJ seriously as a story which happens in the same setting and timeline as the rest of the saga . . . . . the correct answer is neither.

    I put both because it’s part of one theme from the movie (death bringing new life: the Jedi passing from Luke to Rey). As Yoda warned Luke, they [the Jedi] could not lose Rey, otherwise the cycle would be broken. As long as there was at least one more to carry on the Jedi, then “last” would not mean the final end of the Jedi.
