Who Makes Vader such an Icon

    I would say its a combination of three things. Jame's voice. David's presence and Anakin without the suit as Vader.

    The image of pre-suit Vader has certainly become iconic in its own right, I feel.
    The icon that is Vader in the suit is what it is in large part because of what McQuarrie, Burtt, Prowse and Jones brought to the character.

    I would think that Hayden Christensen makes Darth Vader a better character, but what makes him such an icon is the suit, the loud breathing, and the voice. So, in people, it's most likely David Prowse, Ralph McQuarrie, Ben Burt and James Earl Jones.

    I think Darth Vader is definitely the product of a team effort. The mesmerising voice of James Earl Jones, the physical presence and mannerisms of David Prowse, the intimidating black mask and suit of Ralph McQuarrie and the dialogue written by George Lucas.
