Who played the better Obi-Wan



The transition between Ewan McGregor in ATC and Alec Guinness in ANH is almost seamless. This was tough, but I?m going to betray the OT and say Ewan McGregor?s Obi-Wan was better.

 

They were both good at Obi-Wan.

 

They were as good as each other.

 

I think that Sir Alec played the better Obi-Wan. That doesn't mean that I think he was a better actor in the OT than Ewan is in the PT, but I just like Kenobi's character better in the OT, and I think that Alec did a wonderful job of portraying "Old Ben."

 

They are both as good for varying reasons.

 

Sir Alec has done a better job as Obi wan, so far. Wait and see what Ewen will do for the character in ep3

Ewan and he actually enjoys the SW experience.

He made Obi-Wan what he is now, and I don't like Ewan's hair.

 

Can't decide... Sir Alec Guiness is just legend... but Ewan brought life (and hoards of teenage girls) to the role.

 

Sir Alec by a landslide, most of this is do to movie quality though, not acting ability. Although Alec was a better actor...

I watched ANH with a friend tonight and some of our comments were 'Man, Alec does such an awesome job' and 'Man Ewan reminds me so much of Alec'.

Both, as it should be.

I'd say about equal.Even though,IMHO,PT Obi-Wan is the coolest.You can't forget about Alec.I mean,he WAS the original.So,both.

 

You can't compare them. They were both great. And technically they were playing different characters. I mean Alec was playing old Obi-Wan and Ewan was playing young Obi-Wan. So you really can't compare them. But they were both great!

 

Must agree with both SoloJOnes & Sith Wizard . The two Obis are very different. As would be expected when anyone grows up. I think part of the brillance in Ewan's performance is it seems to be homage to Sir Alec. Very B->

We first met OBiEwan as the ideal padawan, dutifully serving alongside his master, waiting to take his test to be a Jedi; tearfully seeing his master die. Next Ewan in aotc is the action hero/detective trying to unravel the Sith plot; while still seeming to be the caring tutor/farther to the very young Anakin Skywalker.

While Alec in teaching Luke during ANH, you could see the pain Obi was going through in teaching the younger Skywalker, and not wanting to repeat any of his errors. Than during TESB & ROTJ appearing is spirit form and reassuring Luke, when Luke questions his quest, himself, and what he has been told.

Two great performances by two great characters.
