I voted for Guiness since he was the original, but McGregor is pretty good too.

Ewan could own Guiness in a lightsaber battle.

    So I vote Ewan

When I saw this poll I thought how hard it would be to vote who played the better Obi-Wan but I was happy to see the third choice, "They were as good as each other". :)

They are as good as each other in my opinion. :)

The third option kind of ruined the poll.

I say Ewan because of the Ep. IV lightsaber battle. Guiness is a little better actor but I'm an action junkie.

Even though I prefer the OT, I appreciate Ewan MacGregor's enthusiasm for the part. So, my vote was for Ewan. :)

Alec Guiness, both for his name and the shoddiness of his sabre techniques.

Both are brilliant for showing different sides of the one character, but I do love Ewan as Obi-Wan, especially how he looks in Episode 3, purely because he is still young enough to look cool and strong, but he is steadily becoming Alec Guiness so the wisdom creeps in. Also, the Ewan Obi-Wan takes part in the best and baddest lightsaber fight ever, so how could you not love him?!

I voted for both of them. I never really liked Obi-Wan in the originals, but after I saw TPM and rewatched the OT I liked him more. Then after AOTCs he is my favorite character in the OT besides Han and Luke. To use a part of TPM for an example they have a symbiotic relationship.

Without Ewan, Obi-Wan is just this old jedi that you know nothing about and don't really care about. Without Alec, Ewan would be playing him differently, because he wouldn't have Alec to model him after. Alec does amazing things, and after watching the PT the things he does and says has way more meaning and his character has alot of depth. Before seeing the PT, you don't realize this.

    I adore them both.

Alec Guiness for what he brought to the OT Obi (nobility, grace and snarkiness). When I first saw ANH, one of the first things I wanted to see was that "...more civilized time" that he talked about to Luke.

Now, I adore Ewan for showing us how Obi-Wan got that way. "Olden Days" Obi-Wan is exactly the way I always imagined he would be -- brave, heroic, sarcastic and superb with a lightsabre ;).

Don't ever ask me to choose again!

Both are excellent, but there is something about originality...

    I voted for Alec.

I don't see how you can compare them because one is much older and didn't have much of a part. They played great as each other. I think Ewan is doing an excellent job as OB1! He learned Alec's mannerisms. They even look a bit like each other. When I watch Ewan I buy the fact that he could have been a younger Alec.
