They're not. I know that the bandwagon of hate for them is very inviting, but it wasn't an accident that GOT was as good as it was. I don't care how some feel about the ending, those two translated Martins books into a world wide phenomenon. They deserve better.

    100% this.

The entirety of the first 6 seasons had amazing writing, and even half of the episodes in Seasons 7 and 8 were great.

S08E05 : The Bells is an excellent episode. Some people didn't like Daenerys going full Anakin, oh well. That was a perfect choice for the character, which had been foreshadowed for a decade (more than two decades if we take into account the novels). Their writing is certainly much better than a lot of people who have actually worked on Star Wars.

I for one, think we could have gotten a great film (or trilogy) from them, but the circumstances were not great when they were first announced, and then went even worse. The irony is that they could have done better for GoT, if they hadn't been hired temporarily for Star Wars. HBO wanted them to do one more season of GoT (and more episodes per season) to stretch out the story better, but they wanted to be done so that they can work on Star Wars and subsequently for Netflix.

Simply due to a broadly unpopular final season, many forget that they created one of the best-written and popular genre TV shows of all time. The public, especially fandoms, are a very harsh mistress.

They're also two timing trollops, shacking up with every sexy franchise that comes along. D&D gave them 10 of the best years of their lives, and this is the thanks they get. [face_talk_hand]

Sam Mendes to do a "1917" style film.... any era... could be Rebels on Endor's moon on the way to the shield generator or some yet untold mission... Jedi on a mission during the Clone Wars or even back in the Sith War... just as generic examples. But that's probably one of my all-time favorites in terms of how it was directed/filmed and a dark gritty Star Wars WAR movie in that kind of setting would be phenomenal.

I loved the war movie aspect of R1, but that one continuous shot gimmick of 1917 didn't work for me. It was distracting and to me it just looked, well, gimmicky.

I liked 1917, but the continuous shot thing also seemed a bit artificial to me - essentially, like a war movie theme park ride. That artifice took me out of the film. It's my least favorite thing in it, and a mistake by Mendes, IMO. Everything else felt more authentic.

It would be glorious if Yamazaki starts working with LFL.

There's now a canon story of a second mission to an Imperial base on the other side of the sanctuary moon but before that I had an idea for a story where another Rebel strike team conducted a diversionary raid on another Imperial base. Maybe that's too simplistic and a more realistic diversionary attack would've been on another system that took away any Imperial reinforcements that could've arrived late and turned the tide of the battle, even after the loss of DSII.

After the director makes his ambitious Minus One sequel thats not as good as the first and then Lucasfilm doesn't have to fire him.

I wouldn't worry about a poor sequel with Yamazaki. He's said that the Godzilla sequel won't be a quick for profit sequel, but that he needs sufficient time to develop the story.

One of the problems with many sequels today is how rushed and underdeveloped they are because of that desire for a quick profit.

Its not just about time though. other factors can contribute quite alot. one of them is the directors not wanting to do the same thing twice, so they take an ambitious step forward and its 50/50 to whether that works or not. If he is lucky he will make 2 good movies that people love. And if not, if he takes that step and it doesn't work, its gonna be on the directors shoulders.

Watch the Yamazaki film be the first one out of the gate despite not even being a thing yet.

This is optimistic. I'm not sure there even is a gate, much less anything coming out of it.
I intend to, when he works with a studio that still releases films.
    Fixed.
