Census Who's better? Sonic or Shadow?

I remember almost always losing to getting drowned in the 2nd level of Sonic 2 (the power plant), getting past it always felt like a huge achievement. Later on when playing the mega collection on the game cube I’ve gotten all the way to metal sonic but I’ve never beaten him.

Want to play Sonic Mania at some point but I keep putting it off.

Though, despite my love for that one iteration of Sonic, Shadow takes the cake. Sure, he's edgy, had amnesia, been a robot maybe, become a secret agent, and is the offspring of an alien and a guy named Gerald... but who of us aren't in this crazy world. At least the guy had a character arc that stayed consistent between games. Anyway I now present the height of edginess incarnate:


Ok, maybe not quite, there was that one song from the Shadow game that was like 'no more god, no more graves', but that song sucked, so whatever.

 

I was only able to get through Sonic 2 because I played it on a emulator and was able to use save states. Sonic Mania is a much better game, so yes, you should play that.

 

Just saw Sonic 2. Loved it. Shadow will be in the sequel! I’m so excited.

 

Sonic is better. Next question.

Mephiles is undoubtedly the best Sonic villain. Love that the later villains that are so bad that Eggman is forced to work with Sonic and Shadow to defeat them.

I've always been fond of this song. I got to see Julien-K with The Birthday Massacre in October 2018.

 

I expect Shadow will have an uptick in popularity on this thread once he appears in the next movie.

I use to listen to my copy of Sonic Adventure 2 soundtrack, especially “Radical Highway” and “I am The Ultimate Lifeform,” so much it was burned on my brain.

Did you see Shadow in Sonic Prime (Netflix)? Oh it was a treat to see Black Doom’s Son in his glory.

 

I just like his drive to avenge Maria once he remembers her and wants to honor her memory. He's an intriguing antihero.

 

It was glorious that Shadow goes pre-anti hero in Sonic Prime towards Sonic because of shenanigans:

 

Absolutely. To me, Shadow is a better-written character than Batman. I mean, I like Batman, but you get my take. Superman and Batman are both intriguing characters. But I think anime just did Sonic and Shadow better. That's just me.

 

I wholeheartedly agree. Shadow and Sonic I followed in Archie Comics, the video games, anime, and etc. I have outgrown Mario, but Shadow and Sonic keep me invested, their edge as @Lord Vivec aptly pointed out keeps me coming back for more. I shall remain a Shadow and Sonic fan and rock on!

How many times did I play Radical Highway? As many as there are stars.

 

Damn. I need to check that out. I do like the music in the 2005 game. Many folks don't like the 2006 Sonic game, but there's no question that Shadow and Mephiles are the best characters in that story. Shadow shows his development by this point. Mephiles is one of my all-time favorite villains and certainly a primary influence on two of my villains in my book. Obviously, the motivation of my Dark Lord and the secondary villain are different. But they do have a similar power set to Mephiles when they want to attack the entire Multiverse. One wants to only destroy the material multiverse, whereas the other wants to annihilate both that and the metaphysical Afterlife. It's crazy. Well, you can see one of them on the left in my avatar. She kinda looks like a female Mephiles, huh? Heh. The one on the right is a protagonist. They're quoted in my purple signature.

 

Sonic The 2006 actually was a great Sonic Adventure 3, the only problem was bugs that froze the game, and made you fall when you timed a jump.

I miss the edgier and darker Sonic games. Now its mostly retro-cutsey.

 

Oh, yes. Oh, yes. Mephiles was pretty much a supernatural version of Infinity Ultron. Very intimating. He despises Shadow's newfound balance between pragmatism, disdain, and bravery, and that's what makes him intriguing.

 

I must say Sonic Heroes really did Shadow wrong with all those clones making us guess if it was the real Shadow from SA2 or just a clone.
