Why the jokes about Obi Wan drinking?

There have been lots of parodies and lots of stupid jokes involving Obi Wan Kenobi and his drinking habits. He's damn near been called an alcoholic.

Why? He only drinks when he's in a bar. Hello? That's what they are for! And it only happens twice in the whole saga (In AOTC and in ANH) 2 little drinks hardly make up a drinking problem. Why all the mocking? Am I missing something?

 

There was an incident in Labyrinth of Evil too, Anakin and Obi-Wan going from one bar to another....

I think part of it is that Old Ben displays a great familiarity for the Cantina in his line "This place can get a little rough." so it also can work as a joking explanation of the "certain point of view" things with the reason Obi-Wan isn't quite right in his explanation is that he's clearly just drunk.

 

Besides, who knows what was in that drink he had at Dex's Diner.

 

Obi-wan's believing stormtroopers could shoot worth a darn in ANH and his memory of the way things went down in the PT, all of this could be explained by the fact he was never sober in the OT, even as a Force ghost.

 

Probably because he is the only Jedi we see doing it.

1. The first actor to play Obi-Wan was a man whose surname was Guinness

2. The second actor to play Obi-Wan is Scottish. And the Scottish seem to have a reputation second only to the Irish when it comes to drink.

 

plus, the fact he spent almost 20 years on a desert planet with little moisture maybe is another reason.

 

How exactly is that a reason?

People who live in deserts aren't drunks.

 

Ok, why is it that in every single film that involves people living in deserts, theres always a bar in the middle of nowhere packed with people drinking?..... AT DAYTIME

Because he actually drinks, lol. AOTC, ANH, plus he got himself and poor Anakin drunk on Cato Neimodia in Labyrinth of Evil.

 

Pretty sure Anakin consented to drinking for himself. He's not a child you know.

 

Well, Obi-Wan is the "Master".

He's supposed to set an example for Anakin...

 

Anakin was no longer a Padawan in LOE. They both got drunk while they were waiting, and they had fun together. Suddenly everyone thinks Anakin can't make decisions for himself.

Dude...it was just a little drinking in LOE. No where near the level of seriousness in RotS.

I wouldn't call him weak minded either. He made bad decisions because he thought he was doing them for the right reasons.

He does, Obi-Wan shows Anakin how a Jedi would react to situations. Anakin just chooses to act differently and in ROTS far worse.

 

I think that's the meanest thing anybody has ever said to me. My id is ComicDiva for crying out loud.

Anyway, I just didn't think that seeing Obi Wan drink once or twice in the movies is enough to consider him a flaming alcoholic, and that's what I was aking. If there is something in the EU or the comics or something like that, that shows more drinking and boozin.

It's really just a joke that's spread throughout the fan base and really didn't have much of a basis in anything except perhaps the familiarity Obi-Wan had with the Cantina until the Prequels added more fuel with him getting a drink in the nightclub and then LOE with him and Anakin getting drunk.
