In the part that you made giant highlighted letters in, I was referring to this and many similar threads, and the idea of bringing back dead characters; that is what I meant by stale and trite. We already have the ALIVE characters that are coming back from the old movies, it starts to become ridiculously repetitious if you also bring back the dead (time for the story to move on from them). Additionally, the ST should bring its own set of creative/original ideas, thoughts, subplots, etc., not just a rehash; being ALL of the same characters makes it much less likely that will happen (new characters bring new angles in the story).
