Is it though? What books would you have chosen for an Essentials Collection if not those?

No I would have chosen those, but to be fair I think the essential stuff will be things that the NuCanon chooses to adapt and bring back into the fold compared to something like the NJO and Dark Nest Trilogy.

Granted Legacy of the Force would have been a cool tie in to see "Hey here's the first time a Solo kid went bad" but to late for that. Oh and Dark Empire would have put that in there.

So I still stand by my thoughts on why they are doing these ones.

If that's the case, their timing is way off on everything except Kenobi.

The fact that they aren’t doing a new version of the Bounty Hunter Trilogy to tie in with Book of Boba is the big flaw in the marketing theory.

Still I think the fact we have Thrawn, Kenobi, Plagueis and Bane are still connecting to something. It just seems to coincidental not too.

No one's saying it's coincidental though. They're saying the correlation is for a different reason

And I think the correlation is to tie in with things happening in New Canon.

Then why not do the most direct, obvious one that’s coming out this year?

The Bounty Hunter Wars was literally the legends story of Boba surviving RotJ, fighting Bossk etc.

I still feel Thrawn fits that niche with Mandoverse.

So I stand by what i say.

Boba Fett isn’t in the Thrawn Trilogy.

True but the Mandoverse is the Thrawn Trilogy ;)

Boba Fett even being alive and headlining a story post-RotJ owes it’s existence to the Bounty Hunter Trilogy. Any tenuous links to the Thrawn arc are less important.

To follow your logic, they wouldn’t republish the Darth Bane trilogy because the Acolyte is the Darth Plagueis story.

I think there is some thought to synergy of the books and shows, but I don't think it's the only factor. Generally popularity would also be a factor.

Well just gonna have to agree to disagree on this.

    Or both.

Boba surviving was in one of the earliest (proper) EU stories, Dark Empire.

As a reminder, though, Boba's first appearance was not ESB, but one of the very first Expanded Universe sources.

Goes back a bit farther to Fett's amnesiac post-sarlacc appearance in the old Marvel SW #81: Jawas of Doom (March '84).

    https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Star_Wars_81

Granted, he's back in the sarlacc by the end of the issue, but then Dark Empire and it's sourcebook ("The Ordeal of Boba Fett") fished him out again, as described by Daniel Keys Moran in "A Barve like That."

JJM has commented in the past that any time news thats Kenobi related comes out, even before the Disney Plus series was announced, sales for the Kenobi book spiked, and they spiked massively after the Plus Series was announced. Zahn said the same thing about the OG Thrawn Trilogy when he was confirmed for Rebels.

So even without an advertising campaign, any time the NEU brings popular stuff from legends back sales for the old legends story will spike, and in some way keep those stories alive.

    And speaking of JJM:

Kotor Omnibus did bangers, the series probably has more fans today then it did when it was still releasing.

Eh, it only sold well because it's really well-written and the illustrations are great, and it's fun, and really captures the spirit of Star Wars.

Quality does sell. Hopefully the Empire Omnibus 1 due next year will do similar.

Yeah I mean if you take that away and what is left? Not much. Exactly and that is why people won't read the EU, cause if you take away all the quality elements of it and the magic and feelings the works capture, then people have no reason to get into it.

I didn't get the hardback KOTOR one though, as I already have them all twice and I can't justify that amount of money.

Nope, he's just writing Trek instead of Wars.
