Will Shrek 2 Outgross Episode I?

As of today(July 5), Shrek 2 stands at $410,200,000 at the U.S. Box Office and is the 5th largest grossing film so far. Episode I is 4th. Shrek 2 has already conquered ROTK and Spider-man. Could TPM, which made $431,065,444, be next?

 

At this rate, maybe. But hopefull Spidey 2 will prevent that travesty from occuring (SW being beat by Shrek 2? That's just wrong. Bad enough it beat Spidey 1 and a LOTR movie. UGH!!!).

 

I enjoyed Shrek 2 a lot. I don't want it to pass The Phantom Menace, but if it does, I won't lose any sleep over it.

Shrek 2 isn't crap. It's an enjoyable film that has broad appeal.

They're certainly not my favourites either, but I can see why they have so much success. I'm sure Shrek 2 and Spiderman 2 will surpass TPM in the US Box Office. Box Office always reflects a film's popularity, not its quality, so it doesn't bother me.

I'm sure more people said that about TPM than Shrek. I might see Shrek 2, it really doesn't bother me how much money it makes. I don't understand how a movie annoys people.

 

Of course it will. At least if it continues at the current pace. And it deserves the success it gets so no problem with that.

TPM is a great movie.

Anyway, why is it #4?? I though it was #3 behind Titanic and Harry Potter? Did ROTK beat TPM? If so, there you have, IMO a not so great movie (ROTK).

 

The gross amount a movie earned tells you nothing.

The number of tickets sold, now that's an accurate indicator of a films success.

Because we all know that Oscar-winning pictures are not that great, right?

 

It annoys me that a film like Shrek 2 would make more than Episode I ... but its not that big of a deal to me. It's not like I"m going to suddenly start hating TPM just because Shrek 2 beat it.

Oh ok I'm going to come out and say it. I don't care if Shrek 2 outgrosses Episode 1. It won't making me hate TPM if it does. Both TPM and AOTC made a lot of money. TPM being the 4th film made AOTC being the 5th film. You have Star Terk, 007, and a few other films that have gone on to there 5th film and have not made the kind of money Star Wars has. So it does not bother me at all.

 

Shrek 2 is awesome and I'd have no problem if it beat TPM, it was very entertaining.

 

I could care less. Who do you think I am, George Lucas? I'm not making money off either.

For the record, though, I didn't find the first Shrek film funny or original at all. I never understood all the hype and refuse to get caught up in it to see the second one.
